Normally, I don't like to elevate the opinions of celebrities. But this statement was the perfect reaction to recent events:

In case you haven't been following the news:
=========

President Barack Obama’s White House is certainly closing out its final weeks with a no-holds-barred approach to Israel, following the Friday vote on United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, which blocks the Jewish state from establishing settlements in land the Palestinians claim as their own.

In a Wednesday speech that sounded more like a diatribe against Israel, outgoing Secretary of State John Kerry explained the Obama administration’s decision to abstain from rather than veto the 14-0 vote on the anti-Israel resolution, skewering the country for advocating a one-state solution.

“If the choice is one state,” Kerry said, “Israel can either be Jewish or democratic. It cannot be both.”
=========

TL;DR All of the Muslim countries are allowed to be Muslim (and oppress women and slaughter non-Muslims & homosexuals with ZERO condemnation or retatialitation from the worthless United Nations). But the ONE Jewish country on the entire planet is not allowed to be Jewish and defend itself against the people who are openly bound and determined to enact a second Holocaust.

I know a holiday post should be "cheery". But I thought it would be better (and more in keeping with the holiday) to reaffirm my peoples' right to exist.

Shabbat Shalom, mother fu*kers!!

I know I've been neglecting my poor LJ page for a while. I should post something happy. But I need to get this off my chest.

This election sucks so bad that I'm honestly considering just not voting for anyone in the presidential campaign. I thought about throwing away my vote on the libertarian; but he sucks, too (not as much as Clinton and Trump. But sucking less than those two isn't something to be proud of)

This particular essay caused quite a wank storm among Sly Cooper fans on both Tumblr and Deviant Art. So I thought it would be interesting to see how it's received by the friends I have here who are mostly unfamiliar with the Sly Cooper franchise (save the two poor saps I recently roped into playing the original trilogy ~_^)

Basically, I believe that Sly Cooper 4: Thieves in Time perfectly encapsulates what is WRONG with the current gaming industry and culture vis-à-vis female representation. And this essay explains why.

FYI, The essay contains MAJOR spoilers for all four games. So if you want to play the original trilogy before reading about how Sly 4 took a steaming dump on it & locked the female characters in the fridge, go do that now. The essay will still be here when you get back.

Very few male Sly fans seem to understand why this game bothers me. This comic was my attempt to illustrate it in a way they might understand:

Here's the DA link.

I swear, it felt like this game was TRYING to make female players uncomfortable. The original Sly trilogy treated the two female leads very well. But this game...

So, if any of you guys are getting sick of my recent Sly Cooper spamming. Just keep all those facts in mind and try to be patient with me.

Sometimes, you CAN judge a book by it's cover.

For example, my initial reaction upon seeing the rebooted design for Carmelita Fox (the main female character and all-around badass from the original Sly Cooper trilogy) was, "WTF!? There is no way in HELL that this game will be good!! Why is it directly pandering to the wierdo pervs who draw furry porn!!!!?!??"

For those who aren't familiar with Sly Cooper, here's a side-by-side comparison of the old and new designs (hint: the original design is the one that DOESN'T SUCK!!!):

...but, in the end, I opted to give it the benefit of the doubt and buy the game anyway. That was a mistake.

I can't help wondering if this sexing up of a game franchise that was previously...
a) not guilty of the sexist nonsense that seems to plague the game industry nowadays
b) primarily marketed to CHILDREN!!
....has something to do with modern trends or culture or whatever. It's just scary how female representation in media (especially in stuff that's aimed at kids) seems to be going BACKWARDS instead of FORWARDS.

On a lighter note, I couldn't help wondering how this game would have been received if the tables were turned and pervy WOMEN had gotten their clutches on this franchise. And then this fantastic piece of crack-art was born...

I've heard good things about the work of Tony Harris over the years. But I'm wondering if I should swear his comic books off from now on (and encourage my fellow nerd girls to do the same) after this dude recently outed himself as a massive, sexist piece of shit.

I'm a little late to this outrage party. But I wanna put in my 2 cents anyway (since I happen to be one of those "COSPLAY-Chiks" he despises so much)...

I've spent a lot of time ranting about Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated (or, as I like to call it, "the-show-that-shall-not-be-named") and why I think it's awful, sexist, and poorly written. So I think it's only fair that I offer up my ideas on how I'd craft a reboot and add romance and drama to these characters without shoving any girls into fridges, making the gang act like hateful and heartless jerks, or turning any of the leading men into GODDAM DATE RAPISTS!!!!!!!

This issue is my new personal favorite! Mainly because it gives us a great insight into Daphne's character, the girls' relationship, and it does a surprisingly awesome job with a tired sexist story trope!

First up, the gang gets roped into an adventure with Candidate Dracula! And Scooby Doo gets political!

This next story is just AWESOME. It's a Daphne-centric plot where she enters a beauty pageant. That description may sound lame. But this actually succeeds at being a great story, an insight into Daphne's character, and most importantly...
...it's a story centered on Daphne's good looks that doesn't exploit Daphne OR denigrate Velma!! That's right, a Scooby Doo comic published in 1974 is more realistic and respectful in it's treatment of female characters than a certain other Scooby cartoon that aired just a few weeks ago!!

Hey, remember back in my Fridging of Velma Dinkley essay when I joked that:
At least Velma was never sexually assaulted or severely beaten in Mystery Incorporated (however, the show was green lit for another season; so I wouldn’t put it past them just yet...)

Well, Velma wasn't sexually assaulted in the latest episode (she's an ugly, un-rapeable troll, remember?). But someone else was. Take a wild guess who.

Trigger Warning for horrors under the cut..... )

I....don't know what to make of this. Up until now, my over-the-top raging about this show was mostly a running joke (since CN essentially killed it with bad scheduling a long time ago and MI's canon hasn't seeped into any other Scooby projects). But now I am genuinely PISSED OFF! Like, I have half a mind to write angry letters to Warner Bros, spread this news to feminist blogs, and write reviews on all the "Parental Watchdog" websites so parents know that this show is bad for kids (and adults) on every conceivable level.

WHERE THE HELL WERE THE NETWORK CENSORS WHEN WE FINALLY NEEDED THEM!?!?!

So, a few little birdies told me that Mystery Incorporated improved in season two and I should give it another chance (despite all my VERY COMPELLING REASONS to avoid it like leprosy). So I tuned into today's new episode because I had nothing better to do this morning.

Today's episode featured a Puritan ghost who attacks teenagers on Lovers Lane for acting "impure". Specifically, he likes to target the teenage girls for dressing like harlots. When the gang first meets the ghost, the ghost chastises one random girl for her low neckline, chastises Daphne for her short skirt, and when he gets to Velma.....he remarks that he wont attack her because she is "plain, wholesome, and completely un-tempting to the male gaze". No, really. I AM NOT EXAGGERATING! THE SHOW REALLY DID THIS AGAIN!!!!

Apparently, despite the fact that Velma's skirt is shorter than Daphne's, even sexually repressed Pilgrims are so repulsed by her hideous, fat, masculine body that it doesn't bother their orthodox sensibilities to see her traipsing about with her legs exposed (because religious rules about modesty only apply to hot chicks).

Believe it or not, it gets worse...

More fat-shaming and sexism under the cut.... )

I should have known better than to do this again.

FUCK THIS SEXIST FUCKING SHOW AND THE CREEPY MISOGYNIST DOG IT RODE IN ON!!!!!

Dear President Obama,

You don’t know my telephone number, but I hope your staff is busy trying to find it. Ever since you called Sandra Fluke after Rush Limbaugh called her a slut, I figured I might be next. You explained to reporters you called her because you were thinking of your two daughters, Malia and Sasha. After all, you didn’t want them to think it was okay for men to treat them that way:

“One of the things I want them to do as they get older is engage in issues they care about, even ones I may not agree with them on,” you said. “I want them to be able to speak their mind in a civil and thoughtful way. And I don’t want them attacked or called horrible names because they’re being good citizens.”

And I totally agree your kids should be able to speak their minds and engage the culture. I look forward to seeing what good things Malia and Sasha end up doing with their lives.

But here’s why I’m a little surprised my phone hasn’t rung. Your $1,000,000 donor Bill Maher has said reprehensible things about my family. He’s made fun of my brother because of his Down’s Syndrome. He’s said I was “f—-d so hard a baby fell out.” (In a classy move, he did this while his producers put up the cover of my book, which tells about the forgiveness and redemption I’ve found in God after my past – very public — mistakes.)

If Maher talked about Malia and Sasha that way, you’d return his dirty money and the Secret Service would probably have to restrain you. After all, I’ve always felt you understood my plight more than most because your mom was a teenager. That’s why you stood up for me when you were campaigning against Sen. McCain and my mom — you said vicious attacks on me should be off limits.

Yet I wonder if the Presidency has changed you. Now that you’re in office, it seems you’re only willing to defend certain women. You’re only willing to take a moral stand when you know your liberal supporters will stand behind you.

But…

What if you did something radical and wildly unpopular with your base and took a stand against the denigration of all women… even if they’re just single moms? Even if they’re Republicans?

I’m not expecting your SuperPAC to return the money. You’re going to need every dime to hang on to your presidency. I’m not even really expecting a call. But would it be too much to expect a little consistency? After all, you’re President of all Americans, not just the liberals.

Yeah, I know, I'm violating my "no politics" rule again. But the double standard against conservative women is one of my hot buttons and I feel that this message needs to be spread around. Too many people look the other way when conservative women (and their children) are slandered just because they don't like our views and it's nice to see one of the biggest victims stand up and call it out.

Normally, I try to avoid making political posts on my personal journal because I want to avoid alienating my left-leaning friends (and I want to keep my personal LJ as wank-free as possible). But this is too important not to mention here.
