Everyone has probably seen this video already. But I think it's worth posting anyway because this man has done something miraculous. He has brought the pro and anti Chick-Fil-A folks together to agree on one thing:
THIS GUY IS THE BIGGEST DOUCHE IN THE UNIVERSE!!!!
===
I feel for this guy's family (he has young kids and internet mob justice can be a frightening thing). But I don't feel sorry for him. As someone who has worked many low wage customer service jobs and has dealt with MANY sanctimonious assholes like him, I revel in the fact that he lost his cushy job. Maybe now he'll understand what it's like to not have the luxury of being able to be selective about what companies you choose to work for. He seemed to be under the impression that the teenage drive-thru girl chose that job because she just LOVES oppressing gay people with chicken sandwiches. And he seemed to believe that upsetting a helpless young woman at her workplace (where she is obligated to be nice to him and not fight back!) was a victory for civil rights somehow. F**K this guy!!

Date: 2012-08-04 07:00 pm (UTC)This struck a nerve with me because I'm so desperate for extra income right now that I wouldn't say no if a company that went WAY against my values offered me employment. I'm sure that a lot of gay people work at Chick-Fil-A and hate it; but they have no choice because the economy sucks.
I get the feeling that this dude never had to work a customer service grunt job in his life. Maybe that's why he's under the delusion that yelling at a teenager at a drive-thru is "speaking truth to power" somehow.

Date: 2012-08-04 08:57 pm (UTC)So, you think an appropriate way to protest Chick-Fil-A is to make sanctimonious speeches to the minimum wage employees at the bottom of the corporate totem pole? What does that accomplish aside from making some low-wage employee feel bad? Especially since, for all we know, that girl could be a gay person who works there because she was desperate for work and had no other options.

Date: 2012-08-04 09:21 pm (UTC)That poor girl. I just want to give her a hug.
I can believe that jerk. He doesn't agree with the companies polices and doesn't want to buy food there fine, but don't take it out on the workers. It's not like they have any control over that. This guy was just attempting at an easy/cheap way to make himself feel better. If he wanted to do anything that would ACTUALLY have an effect on the company, he would take the time to write a letter to the company itself, NOT yell at the poor woman who is just trying to make a living.

Date: 2012-08-14 04:20 pm (UTC)And even if the company WAS evil, that doesn't make it OK to harass the workers sitting at the bottom of the totem pole.

Date: 2012-08-14 04:59 pm (UTC)I heard from my aunt that the Chick-Fil-A company is owned by or in business with an evil company or something, but most workers employed at Chick-Fil-A have nothing to do with that. They're just doing their jobs, earning their pay, and making a living.

Date: 2012-08-14 06:31 pm (UTC)Besides, if every company that had an asshole in charge was forced to shut down, there wouldn't be very many left. LOL
