No. Seriously. THIS IS HAPPENING!!!!!!!!!!! o_0

I’m torn between being THRILLED that a new generation will grow up with Ducktales and TERRIFIED that this new show will be a badly written CGI atrocity.

IMO, Disney would be smart to just use the old theme song as is. That thing is the most notorious earworm EVER and (it’ll stand out among modern cartoons that don’t use epic theme songs anymore).

Also, sad to say, they’ll likely use new VAs for Scrooge and Magica (since Alan Young and June Foray are over 90 years old now). And I’m betting on Greg Ferguson being Young’s replacement (mainly because his Scottish accent is authentic). And I’m betting on Tress MacNeille being the new Magica.

I swear, I heard about this news via people sending me “Are you happy NOW!?" messages on Deviant Art. Apparently, a few people seem to think that I had a hand in this because I wrote some scathing reviews of Sanzaru's sexist revision of the Sly Cooper series. LOL

Seriously though, I am beyond thrilled that Sanzaru's team of perverted man-children wont get another chance to sh!t all over my favorite video game series

So, I had lunch with my sister today and she told me about this awful incident that happened while she was walking with friends at San Diego Comic Con. And I'm posting it here just to verify that it's true and to let all my con-going buddies (specifically, the women) know to avoid this asshole like the plague.

My friend Jimmy (who also witnessed this) did a write up about it on his Tumblr. So I'll just paste his account here (and add emphasis where neccessary):

Kevin Brueck: Comic Con villain

On July 25th, my friends and I were walking down the street towards some place to have lunch during the San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) 2014. A man stops us, asking my cosplayer friend to do a quick interview for his documentary on cosplaying. Which is a common project for filmmakers who attend the con. She signed a release form for the documentary and was ready for the interview.

But once the camera started recording, the host opens up shouting “I’M HERE WITH ONE OF THE COMIC CON SKANKS!” and then continues on with a line of sexually harassing questions. My friend flipped him off and stormed away. The host followed her, continuing on with his questions.

At this point, her friends (including me) surround the guy with a onslaught of obscenities. He explains that it’s just a “prank” and then asks for her to sign a “real” release form. Not only does she refuse, but demands to get the form she signed back. He tells her “no” and then when asked why not, he answers with, “because I said so”.

So I asked him for his name and the name of the youtube channel he works on. He tells me “Kenny Burns” and that he works for youtube.com/pranks.

But that was a lie.

I found out that the name of this disgusting human being is Kevin Brueck and that he has filmed quite a few SDCC related prank videos where he terrorizes cosplayers for youtube.com/break.

This is such a disgusting trend. These cosplayers work long hours and spend an obscene amount of money to make their costume and show it off at SDCC. All of that effort put towards this one weekend out of the year will forever be tarnished by the memory of being humiliated and harassed by this horrible individual.

In one of his videos, he disguises himself as representative of the convention and scares cosplayers with a phony copyright infringement fine.

He needs to be stopped. I want his videos taken off of youtube and I want him to banned from the site as well as SDCC. Please share this story to whatever sites you think would be willing to help us shut down the continuing career of Kevin Brueck, a Comic Con villain!

This is such horrible news. I knew Kasem as "The Top 40 Countdown DJ" long before I learned he was also a prolific voice actor in many of my favorite shows. He was phenomenally talented and, by all accounts, also a good person. So, at the very least, its comforting to know he'll always be remembered as an icon. Though I can't imagine how rough it must be for his children to lose their dad on Fathers' Day.

This news hits me REAL hard both because I'm a fan and because I feel so bad that Kasem's final days were marked by a bitter feud between his wife and children. I dealt with similar circumstances when my Grandfather was dying; and I wouldn't wish that kind of drama and heartache on anyone. And this is also why I REALLY hate seeing news surrounding Kasem's final days get bogged down by folks judging his wife and/or kids when they know nothing about the situation aside from what they hear on television.

I want to end this on a high note, so here's a clip of Kasem's final Top 40 sign off. I have a clear memory of tuning in to listen to this live as a kid (even though I hadn't listened to the Top 40 broadcasts in at least a year) because I just HAD to hear his last one:

RIP Casey

Sadly, Casey Kasem (American Icon and original voice of Shaggy) has gone missing among a heated legal battle between his wife and his adult children regarding his health care and estate.

I don't want to speculate about who's at fault because my family went through a similar situation with an elderly relative (minus the mysterious disappearance) and there are always two sides to every story. I'm just putting this up so people can offer prayers, news updates, and share fond memories they have of Kasem.

I've listened to this man's voice my whole life (and it took me years to figure out that the smooth Top 40 DJ and Shaggy were the same person). I REALLY hope he's found soon and that some sort of amicable compromise can be made with his family so he can live out his final days in peace.

This gofundme page was set up to help a single mother whose infant son was brutally assaulted while he was at his babysitter's house.

Sadly, Lukas passed away over the weekend. And his mother made the brave decision to donate his organs so other kids can get a second chance at life. I'm putting this out there in the hopes that Lukas' family can raise the money to cover funeral expenses and allow his mother to take some time off work to grieve and be with her family.

Carl Steven side by side

I was surfing IMDB and stumbled on some sad news. Turns out Carl Steven (the only actor besides Frank Welker to voice Fred Jones in a Scooby Doo series) died last year.

Everyone has probably seen this video already. But I think it's worth posting anyway because this man has done something miraculous. He has brought the pro and anti Chick-Fil-A folks together to agree on one thing:
THIS GUY IS THE BIGGEST DOUCHE IN THE UNIVERSE!!!!

Also. I can't believe this is the first time I stopped and thought "Maybe it's NOT a good idea to turn beloved childhood icons into piñatas and let children beat the stuffing out of them". XD

The conservative movement just lost it's bravest warrior...

Normally, I try to avoid making political posts on my personal journal because I want to avoid alienating my left-leaning friends (and I want to keep my personal LJ as wank-free as possible). But this is too important not to mention here.

Ben Stein (best known for delivering the famous "Beuller" line in Ferris Beuller's Day Off) is a smart man who also happened to be one of the few out and proud conservatives in Hollywood. I enjoyed listening to him speak when he appeared on news shows and I had a great amount of respect for him for having the balls to finance and release the documentary Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed.
However, he recently released an op-ed about the Dominique Strauss-Kahn rape case that was so mind-bendingly stupid and offensive that I honestly thought it was satire the first time I read it! The whole article is insane, but these two paragraphs are the most appalling parts:

=======================
2.) In life, events tend to follow patterns. People who commit crimes tend to be criminals, for example. Can anyone tell me any economists who have been convicted of violent sex crimes? Can anyone tell me of any heads of nonprofit international economic entities who have ever been charged and convicted of violent sexual crimes? Is it likely that just by chance this hotel maid found the only one in this category? Maybe Mr. Strauss-Kahn is guilty but if so, he is one of a kind, and criminals are not usually one of a kind.

3.) The prosecutors say that Mr. Strauss-Kahn “forced” the complainant to have oral and other sex with him. How? Did he have a gun? Did he have a knife? He’s a short fat old man. They were in a hotel with people passing by the room constantly, if it’s anything like the many hotels I am in. How did he intimidate her in that situation? And if he was so intimidating, why did she immediately feel un-intimidated enough to alert the authorities as to her story?
=======================

If you want to read the whole article, you can see it here. Just make sure there aren't any breakable objects nearby. And shoo any small children out of the room while you're at it because, trust me, you WILL swear at the screen at least once!

SETH MACFARLANE IS GOING TO REBOOT THE FLINTSTONES! I wish I was kidding. O_o

NO! Just...NO!!!!

I have nothing against MacFarlane (heck, I love American Dad). But the idea of the man behind Family Guy helming the reboot of a wholesome, iconic CHILDREN'S CARTOON worries me. I grew up with The Flintstones. I ate their cereal and their vitamins. And I have warm, fuzzy memories of sitting in front of the TV and swooning when Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm got married back when I was a toddler. So I REALLY don't want to turn on the TV one night and see Fred and Barney making crude jokes about abortion and how horrible Fox News (or should I say ROX News! har har!) is. >_<

STUDIO DEEN HEAD SELF-FINANCES ANIME IN WIFE'S MEMORY

Hiroshi Hasegawa, the 59-year-old president of Studio DEEN, is self-financing an anime retelling of local Japanese folklore to honor a promise to his wife Michiko, who passed away in May. Hasegawa is aiming to finish this anime about the stories of western Tottori Prefecture — his birthplace — and Yamagata Prefecture's Tsuruoka City — his wife's birthplace — next summer.

Michiko Hasegawa recounted to her husband the folk tales of a dog that hunted supernatural creatures. Those stories had inspired the traditional "Inu Matsuri" ("Dog Festival") at her hometown. In folklore told at Hiroshi Hasegawa's birthplace in Tottori, the god of the mountain Daisen gave the people only a handful of rice. However, the people cooked the rice in a pot and made it grow seven times larger. The couple discussed making a children's anime of their birthplaces' folk stories such as these.

Hasegawa planned to start production last winter, but his wife's health took a turn for the worse. She passed away in May at the age of 59. Hasegawa postponed the anime project during her illness, but then resolved to continue work in her memory. Production started this past August, and the staff, which includes animators from Tottori, is currently drawing the storyboards. The Nihonkai Shimbun paper published part of the storyboards on Tuesday.

The anime will feature six stories from towns in western Tottori (Daisen, Hino, Yonago) and five stories from Tsuruoka City. The episodes will each run about 10 minutes long, and will feature live-action segments. Hasegawa plans to sponsor the free distribution of the anime to educational and social institutions.

I am so watching this the moment I can do so legally. I really hope this project succeeds. Lord knows Mr Hasegawa can use all the cheering up he can get.
