Happy Valentines Day, everyone

If you're wondering where the heck the Luna/Valgaav thing came from, check out this comic I did justifying the pairing!

My muse is REALLY into this "humanizing anthro characters" thing right now. Go fig. :P

My current targets are....The Rescue Rangers (my previous failed attempts at it can be seen here)

I think I may be getting better at this! :)

I will say this for digital coloring: it is SO much easier to find just the right color you wanna use! And that'll be useful for varying skin tones on characters!

Original Sketch is here

And here's a random assortment of other related sketches I've done lately....

I got my hands on the first issue of the new Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers comic and I wanted to share my thoughts with you all (mainly the Disney fans who are curious if this series is worth your time and money). Short answer: it totally is!

This issue does a great job of appealing to both fans who know the characters inside and out and newbies who may not have watched the series for a while (or at all). We get a lot of back story for Monterey Jack and we finally find out how he met Geegaw Hackwrench (Gadget's father). We also get a short and cute scene of Zipper attending a family reunion and...slightly exaggerating his Ranger exploits.

Some spoilers under the cut... )
The art is just as fabulous in the full issue as it was in the preview a few weeks back. Boom Comics definitely didn't pull a bait-and-switch by tempting us with gorgeous covers only to give us so-so art inside the book. Even if the story was sub-par, the artwork alone would make the comic worth a purchase! Every page is well drawn and so full of tiny gags and fun details that you have to read the comic more than once to catch them all. Leonel Castellani is fast becoming one of my favorite artists (right up there with Terry Moore and Don Rosa!!).

In short, I highly recommend checking out issue one of Rescue Rangers even if you're not a huge fan of the old cartoon or you don't have warm, fuzzy memories of watching it as a child. And if you are a fan of Rescue Rangers (or the Disney Afternoon-style adventure series in general), you HAVE to buy this comic.

Good Lord, my inner child is giddy right now! Boom Comics is officially my favorite publisher. If they do a Talespin comic and it looks even half as good as this Rescue Rangers book, I will totally die and go to nostalgia heaven!

Here's the preview of the first 4 pages of the book (and click here to see all the nifty variant covers for it!)

Pages 1-3 (warning: extreme cuteness lies below this cut!) )

That last splash page...like, whoa!
This company is eating most of my disposable income budget right now and I couldn't be happier about it! ^_^

Day 21 - A pairing you like and no one else understands why?
Dale and Gadget (Rescue Rangers)

"It's not fair, Gadget! Everyone ships you with Chip just because he has that kick ass bomber jacket and nicer teeth!"

Everyone likes to pair Gadget up with Chip, but I think she fits better with Dale. Gadget and Dale just have a lot more chemistry together. I think that, if she got together with Chip, he’d eventually get annoyed by her ditzyness once the novelty of scoring the hot mechanic wore off. Dale, on the other hand, seems to like her offbeat personality just as much as her looks. So I think they’d be more likely to be happy long term.

Day 22 - A pairing you hate and no one else understands why?
Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley (Harry Potter)

Most of the fandom (save the nutty hardcore fans who wanted Harry to hook up with Hermione/Luna/Draco/Snape/whoever instead) seems to be happy with the way Ginny and Harry hooked up in canon. But their lack of chemistry coupled with the sheer randomness of how they got together just makes it impossible for me to tolerate this couple. And it’s not because I shipped Harry or Ginny with anyone else; I just didn’t like the way their interactions were written and I thought that they went from perceiving each other as good friends to perceiving each other as “OMG!SOULMATES” very suddenly and without any real development or explanation.

If the interior art looks even half as awesome as this cover, I will be a very happy fangirl!

Now I want to try and build Gadget's hang-glider! I haven't felt like this since I tried (and failed) to recreate her plane with a milk carton back in 1990!

The variant covers are pretty sweet, too:

More sweet nostalgia under the cut )

The three non-cannon couples I remember rooting for as a kid are Dale/Gadget (Rescue Rangers), Baloo/Rebecca (Talespin), and Velma/Shaggy (Scooby Doo). I can't remember which came first, so I'm including all of them.

I guess this scene from Darkwing issue#3 was foreshadowing...

....wouldn't it be neat if they shared the same universe? ~_^
Oh, and Gadget has no right to get snotty with Launchpad. Her track record isn't much better than his. XD

Wow. I had a feeling Boom would take on another Disney Afternoon property when Darkwing started selling like hotcakes. But I never imagined Rescue Rangers would be the first. I LOVE the Rescue Rangers and I think the series will make a good comic; but it was never quite as popular or "epic" as other shows, so I didn't think it would ever get one. I'm so glad to be proven wrong!

If Boom makes a Talespin series and picks up the Gargoyles comic where SLG left off, it'll officially be the most awesome comic book company EVER!

I found these images floating on my computer and I figure everyone here who enjoyed the Disney Afternoon as a kid would get a kick out of them. Legend of the Chaos God was a crossover of all the popular Disney Afternoon shows (Talespin, Rescue Rangers, Goof Troop, Ducktales, and Darkwing Duck) and it was published in Disney Adventures magazine back in the mid-1990s. It starts with the Talespin cast finding (and re-hiding) a cursed artifact in the 1930s and then the casts of the other shows find it and defeat it in their respective eras. It's really fun!
