First Tablet paint job

Today a wonderfully awesome person named Diane (aka
ichiban_victory) generously donated one of her old Wacom tablets to me. And this was the first thing I attempted to digitally color.

Color test

Obviously, I still have a lot to learn. But hopefully I'll get better as I get used to handling a tablet. It's certainly easier to get colors right on Photoshop than by working with a limited palette of colored pencils

Date: 2013-07-14 10:32 am (UTC)now to lure you over to Painter as it is superiorI mean HELLOProtip if you aren't doing so already: Line art and color on separate layers. Background should also be its own layer, as a final test against any holes in the color layer. There are some who would even argue that shades/highlights get their own layers, but at least doing the color layer between line art and wireframe/gesture is the way to go. No need to have to worry about coloring inside the lines since you can shave off the excess with the eraser at the end.

Date: 2013-07-14 05:16 pm (UTC)It will get easier to draw smoother lines with practice, too. A lot of practice. And yes, the eraser being part of the pen was genius, as I too hated having to always select the eraser tool! Although sometimes I also just undo what I did in Photoshop. That can save a lot of time and frustration in getting my drawings to turn out somewhat well.
I'm glad you are liking it so far! :)
