The pairing with the most chemistry: Goldie O’Gilt and Scrooge McDuck

Their back story is one of the highlights of the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck book (I'd go on and on about it, but's its really something you need to see for yourself). They are both such tremendous badasses and their interactions together are great. Sadly, the fact that they’re both so tough and stubborn keeps them from just coming out and admitting they love each other. But luckily, one episode of Ducktales gives Goldie and Scrooge a break by changing their reunion story so it has a happier ending.
In the comic, Scrooge lets his old gold claim (which still has a HUGE cache of gold inside it) get turned over to Goldie by convincing her, Donald, and his nephews that he forgot to renew his claim. And since not renewing the claim by a certain date meant that whoever was squatting on the land got to take it, it went to Goldie automatically. Scrooge appears to be angry about losing the claim to her and neither Donald, the nephews, Goldie, nor the audience is ever told if Scrooge let it go to Goldie on purpose or not (though it's pretty obvious that he did).
In the Ducktales adaptation of the story, he simply tells Goldie that he wants her to have the land and the gold and gives it to her (which is pretty out of character for a greedy old coot like Scrooge!). And then this happens…..

You see!! They're so bad ass they make out while sitting on a BEAR!!
The Pairing with the least chemistry: Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley:

Before you ask, I want to let you know that I’m NOT a bitter Harry/Hermione or Harry/Luna shipper. I just don’t think Harry and Ginny's romance was developed well at all in the books (the musical, however, developed it wonderfully ~_^). It starts as a one-sided puppy love crush that Ginny has on her brother’s famous best friend. And for most of the series Harry sees Ginny as Ron’s cute little sister. And when Ginny grows up, she seems to get over her crush and pursue other guys. Then, all of a sudden, in book 6 Harry realizes out of the blue that Ginny was his ~*soulmate*~ all along. And he celebrates this revelation by shoving his tongue down her throat in middle of the Gryffindor common room in full view of everyone they know (including most of Ginny’s older brothers!!). Ick! >_<
Almost all of their interactions after that reminded me of bad shoujo manga. Their romantic dialogue was gag inducing and they behaved like dumbasses around each other. The worst example was at the wedding in book 7; Ginny got jealous when 17-year-old Harry said “hi” to an 11-year-old Veela girl. Ginny was jealous of a freakin’ 11-year-old (which means she obviously doesn’t think too highly of Harry if she believes he might conceivably tap that).

Date: 2010-09-06 04:57 am (UTC)Honestly, I like Ginny as a character. I liked the way Ginny developed from a mousy, quiet girl who pined for Harry Potter and lived in her brothers' shadows to a confident, popular athlete with an active social/romantic life. It was cool to see her become such a tough character in the later books. Which is part of the reason I was so pissed when Book 6 abruptly reduced her to "Harry's Adoring Love Interest".

Date: 2010-09-06 01:38 am (UTC)I do, however, hate it when people say that Ginny is a slut. Dating multiple guys in high school makes you a slut? It's like saying Hermione was a slut because she dated Viktor and went to the Christmas party with McFadden before she hooked up with Ron.

Date: 2010-09-06 02:19 am (UTC)(My friend Jon and I have discussed the Ginny and Harry pairing issue a few times.) It didn't surprise me when Harry ended up with Ginny, I honestly thought for a while before the last book that would be how Rowling would end it so Harry can have the big family he's always wanted. Also, Ginny is not a bad character.
I think the biggest flaw is in the delivery. Rowling should have have introduces Harry's feelings/interest towards her earlier instead of shoving everything near the end. I'm not saying have Ginny being the only girl on his mind, most teenagers date various people just like Ginny did, but Rowling should have drop hints of liking Ginny or just noticing her more and slowly have Harry realize he likes her as she grows up and dates other guys. Also, this would have also given more time for their relationship to develop more.
Anyway, the pairing itself isn't bad to me (I do think it's cute) it just should have been written stronger and given more time to develop.

Date: 2010-09-06 04:45 am (UTC)Harry and Ginny, on the other hand, didn't have many buddy moments before Harry jumped her in the common room. So their romance felt really forced and unnatural.

Date: 2010-09-06 02:35 am (UTC)I agree about Harry and Ginny. It felt too much like, "Well, Harry's struck out with all of the other female interests. Oh, I know! He can fall for Ginny!" Much too forced, much too quick, and it still leaves me feeling completely unenthused about the pairing. Then again, I never read Harry Potter for the pairings anyway.

Date: 2010-09-06 05:04 am (UTC)As for the gun on TV, I think Ducktales had it's run just before TV stations started getting really anal and paranoid about guns on kids' shows. If Ducktales were made today, poor Goldie would lose her trademark shotgun. :(
Speaking of that episode, I remember watching it on Toon Disney a little while back and it was massively edited. The ending was choppy as hell. >_<

Date: 2010-09-06 05:15 am (UTC)I bet it is heavily edited now, since she actually shot the gun a few times. Guns are such a big no-no anymore, which....I guess is understandable in one sense, but it's really gotten to the extreme. (I really hate the fact that Disney refuses to air the episode of Gargoyles when Broadway accidentally shoots Elisa. Did they not get the memo the whole episode is about gun safety? I know seeing the episode when I was younger sure left an impact on me: Don't play with guns!)

Date: 2010-09-06 05:43 am (UTC)The fact that the Gargoyles episode got banned was a terrible shame. It's the only "very special gun safety episode" I've ever seen that communicates the dangers of a gun without turning into a preachy, hysterical "OMG Guns are evil and should never be used EVER!!!" message. I wish every kid could see it (especially kids who have guns in their homes).
I recall Toon Disney having some very bizarre editing standards overall. In addition to the gun thing, they were also very skittish about showing female characters getting hit by male characters. Which led to some noticeably choppy cuts in Gargoyles and Rescue Rangers.

Date: 2010-09-06 06:05 am (UTC)Disney crumpled badly during the Politically Correct era (which is gradually going away). They edited a lot of their older cartoons as well. I can understand why since people are always looking for cannon fodder against Disney, but it's just disappointing.

Date: 2010-09-06 11:31 pm (UTC)If anything, it's been a very real lesson that having loaded guns and kids in the same house is completely idiotic. I feel bad that my cousin has to go through life without her husband now, of course...
