Conventions
May. 28th, 2009 01:50 pmYet another depressing thing about returning to California earlier than planned...
For the last 5 years, it was a tradition for me and my younger sister Jenn to go to the San Diego Comic Con together. We always invited friends to share the hotel and parking expenses; but the trip was pretty much "our thing". Even when I was still living out of state, I felt a little sad that she decided to go without me this year (the friend we invited last year caught the con bug and REALLY wanted her to come). Last year, we were dissapointed with Comic Con (the crowds and chaos and expense of the trip outweighed the fun) and said we would probably skip Comic Con '09 even if I wasn't moving away. So I was suprised she changed her mind.
Now that I'm back home early, seeing her go without me will sting even more. I know its irrational and a little petty, but I can't help it. Hopefully, I'll have a good job by next year and it can be "our thing" again.
.....well, that, and I'd REALLY like to wear my Hawkgirl costume at a big convention again. I worked so hard on the mace (and my friend worked so hard on the mask), it would be a shame to never show it off again. ^_^
Anime Expo would be a good local alternative (unlike San Diego, Los Angeles is less than 2 hours away from my home). But I don't think it would be responsible for an unemployeed person to go to a big con. I don't care how disciplined a person is with money, its IMPOSSIBLE for a fangirl not to go a little wild at those things. And, just my luck, I'll find a ton of awesome Slayers and Magic Users Club merchandise that I can't afford. :-P
