Before the wank begins, let me make it clear that I'm NOT trying to make light of suicide. I'm just mocking DC's latest attempt to drive away it's dwindling female fanbase.

I made this doodle as a response to DC Comic's current art contest to win a job drawing the upcoming revamped Harley Quinn comic book series. Basically, aspiring artists are being asked to show their skills by drawing Harley attempting suicide in a variety of "hilarious" ways. And one of the things they're asking the entrants to draw is:
""
PANEL 4
Harley sitting naked in a bathtub with toasters, blow dryers, blenders, appliances all dangling above the bathtub and she has a cord that will release them all. We are watching the moment before the inevitable death. Her expression is one of “oh well, guess that’s it for me” and she has resigned herself to the moment that is going to happen.

""

You can read more about this stupidity here

To be fair, Harley's certifiably nuts and has more reason to kill herself than most characters in that universe. But you know they won't kill her off, or if they do she'll somehow come back from the dead -- she's too popular, and in comic book land Death is Cheap.

What bothers me worse is that they apparently don't have the courage let Batwoman marry a woman.

I agree on the 'too popular' assessment!

And Ivy/Harley is one of my DC OTPs!

I envision her annoying Death (hopefully the Neil Gaiman version) and the various Rulers of Hell to the point that they'd kick her back upstairs.

You have a point (especially considering that she also went through a horribly abusive relationship). However, that doesn't change the fact that using an out of context "sexy suicide scene" as a means to showcase budding new artistic talent is pretty messed up. That scene could very well work in the context of the book (though given DC's track record with Harley post B:TAS, I HIGHLY doubt it :P). But it's kinda skeevy when put out there on it's own.

Gah, I saw that contest and I could not believe they were for real! I honestly thought it had to be a spoof based on how idiot DC is being! But there it was on their website. Who in their right mind thought that was a good idea!?

The whole concept is pretty WTF and in excruciatingly bad taste, to say the least.

Batman, on the other hand, is hilarious. What makes it work is that the toaster isn't plugged in! It's a small, but perfect detail.

IMHO, Harley should be nibbled to death by rabid ducks. She should roll around in breadcrumbs, and then hang out at the local pond. It would certainly make an interesting few frames.

Thanks! Personally, my favorite detail was Bat-Duckie! :)
