This is what happens when I get bored....



This started as another picture starring one of my AU visions of the Scooby Gang. Then it morphed to "various pictures of gal pals snuggling". Don't ask how that happened. I honestly don't remember.



P.S. Does anyone else remember Pepper Ann? Anyone else who does gets an e-cookie! ^_^

Sadly, Pepper Ann hasn't gotten any DVD or VHS releases. So the only way you can see it is by catching bad quality YouTube vids. :(

Basically, Pepper Ann was a slice-of-life show about a dorky middle school girl and her friends (kinda like a female version of Doug). However, it's notable for having an entire episode centering around Pepper Ann needing to purchase a bra for gym class (NOT KIDDING! This happened in a Saturday morning cartoon! O_o).

I think it's one of the best "girl shows" ever made because the main character is well developed and there are no stupid ongoing romantic sub-plots (Pepper Ann has a crush on a popular boy; but it's rarely the focus of an episode). And it even predicted the horrors of DC's New 52 over 10 years ago (there was one episode where Pepper Ann's younger sister protests her favorite female comic book character getting fridged in a reboot!). So the cartoon was prophetic, too!! O_o


Also, it was one of the rare American cartoons to get a definitive finale episode. I didn't know the finale existed until years after the show was cancelled and I saw the rerun on Toon Disney Channel. And it was so good I almost cried while watching it.

I could go on, but I don't wanna talk your ear off. So, long story short, check it out if you can. It was an episodic show. So you can start with just about any episode of the series and understand what's going on.

Disappointing, it has five seasons yet no plans on releasing the show on DVD whatsoever? 0_o;

Reading your little summary reminds me of another 'girls show' from back in the day. You ever watched As Told By Ginger?

I tried to watch As Told by Ginger; but I just couldn't get into it. It had some good things going for it (like the surprisingly blatant crush/obsession that Courtney had on Ginger). But the fact that most of the characters were bland stereotypes (ie the popular Mean Girl and her bitch clique, the "nice guy" male friend that you KNOW will be a love interest eventually, the uber-nerd, the perfect main character, etc) annoyed me. And the bizarre side plots with Ginger's weirdo brother were jarring and clashed with the girly, slice-of-life tone of the rest of the show.

Also -and this may sound petty- I think the art style REALLY hurt that show. The "ugly" K-C style was a bad fit for a girls' show that was shooting for realism and made a big deal about having the characters change clothes in every episode (something that is difficult to do in animation). I think the show would have done better if it had a different art style (I know I would have liked it better).

Hahaha, drawing folks dancing is always the most fun thing, even when the dancing is dorky! especially when the dancing is dorky!

I like how we get good girl friends in a couple of shows, but we still need more! The default for ladies in media is still to be petty and competitive with each other.

The default also seems to be "girls can only relate to one another via the boys in their lives".

*sigh* It's sad when the only TV show currently airing that "gets" female relationships/friendships is a cartoon about magic horses. :P
....I could be wrong. But that's the only one I can think of.
