I drew this comic immediately after watching episode 12 of Princess Tutu (and I had the other episodes on in the background while finishing it). I know I can't be the only one who wanted to see this ending when watching that episode for the first time:

Despite what I said in the comic, I do like the canon ending and the series overall. I just couldn't let this idea go. XD

Review of the sereis overall:
I was actually pleasantly surprised by it. At first, it seems like a typical "Magical Girl" anime with one or two OMG!DARK twists thrown in to keep it interesting. But it did a great job deconstructing fairy tale tropes and messing with audience expectations in a way that felt natural and in-character for everyone involved.
I especially liked how it handled Duck's relationship with Mytho (or "Muto" or "Prince Siegfried" or whatever the hell his name was XD). She initially falls for him because he's a handsome prince with ANGSTY PROBLEMS. But the puppy love fades once she gets to know him as a person and a friend (and it helps that a hotter, more exotic boy enters the picture later on).
And I liked how Rue actually got decent development beyond "bitchy romantic rival with a sad backstory". And even though I think her friendship with Duck could have been built up better; I still melted at their little "I love you" scene in the last episode.
In short, the show was better than I thought it would be. Thank goodness Netflix carries it!
Also, I want to buy the DVDs now because it turns out ADV packed them with nifty extras. Specifically, awesome stuff like this:
I saw these bloopers before I watched the show. And it made it difficult to take it seriously for a while. XD

Date: 2012-09-05 03:20 am (UTC)I do wish that Rue and Ahiru had more time to be girlfriends with each other. My head canon is that Ahiru gets to return to being a human and she and Rue hang out often for girly sleepovers at the castle. XD

Date: 2012-09-05 03:33 am (UTC)The show eventually explains WHY everyone loves Mytho so much that they're willing to go through hell to save him (and their reasons are compelling). But when I first watched it I kept thinking "WHY THE F**K IS EVERYONE SO ENAMORED BY THIS BORING LOSER!?".
I guess it's one of those things that only makes sense when you re-watch the series. LOL
I am totally on the Fakir/Duck ship, too! I was pleasantly surprised (and excited) when Mytho DIDN'T end up with Tutu and the show presented the message that "you wont die alone if you don't end up marrying your first crush". And I loved that everyone was all BFFs in the end.
My head canon is full of awesome Rue/Duck sleepovers, too! And Duck returns to human form just in time for them to have an epic double wedding.
.....this may become fan art one day. ~_^

Date: 2012-09-05 06:49 am (UTC)God, I love you for this. Great minds think alike. Not enough Rue/Ahiru fluff out there, and I have seen a LOT of Fakir/Mytho.
