Date: 2012-08-01 04:09 am (UTC)I fell for this character because I could relate to her. When I was young, I had the same hair and glasses as Velma and I was self-conscious about my height. And I was also bullied in middle school because kids falsely assumed I was gay.
Seeing a fictional female nerd who was offbeat-looking (and not just a supermodel with glasses) was refreshing. I liked Pup as a kid; but my inner fangirl was re-kindled when I re-discovered the franchise in high school (I LOVE those groovy old CN bumpers).
MI-Velma is the exception. She can go jump off a short pier!
- My OTP for the character
Do you even have to ask? ~_^
- My favorite gen relationship with this character.
Scooby/Velma (ESPECIALLY in Pup).
I think it's adorable that those two were the first members of the team to say "I love you" to each other on screen.
[*obligatory angry Mystery Incorporated rant goes here*]
- An unpopular opinion about this character.
I have two:
Mystery Incorporated. I just don't get why so many people are still gaga for it. Even if you ignore the romantic nonsense (which is IMPOSSIBLE!!) the show is riddled with plot holes and the characters were all turned into assholes.
Linda Cardellini as Velma. I have nothing against her as an actress. I just think she was physically wrong for the role and the nasal voice she affected was annoying. When I saw the movie as a teenager, I just couldn't get over the fact that she was super tall and looked like a hot actress in a "Sexy Velma" costume.
Oddly enough, I liked Hayley Kiyoko (despite the fact that she technically has the wrong body type and ethnicity for the role). Mainly because she has an offbeat look and I can believe her as an awkward nerd.

I want to see an animated Shaggy/Velma hook up in a canon where they aren't douchebags! Specifically, I want a story where Scooby plays match-maker and/or is thrilled about them hooking up because THAT'S THE WAY IT SHOULD BE!!!!
The Lake Monster movie was a nice treat (I like to turn it off after the kiss at the end and pretend that's the finale ~_^), but the cartoon versions are the "real" versions to me.

I have some cool story ideas that are too long or too complex to make into comics. But I haven't put them down because I have zero confidence in my skills as a fiction writer and I don't want to embarrass myself.
Also, I have a few NSFW Shaggy/Velma doodles that I'm nervous about releasing into wilds of the internet. ^_^;
I dunno...on the one hand, I think Velma is a GORGEOUS character and it would be nice to have some tasteful "adult" fanart out there to combat all the gross pics of Velma that pollute the search engines. On the other hand, I worry that making NSFW pictures of a kids' show character (who is technically underage) makes me a perv even if the art is tasteful. What do you think? Maybe we can make a super-private comm just for that stuff? LOL

Date: 2012-08-01 04:24 am (UTC)I love that the writers didn't make her a traitor who loses her mind over Mako like a lot of people assumed they would. It's amazing that Asami of all people turned out to be the most morally strong character in the main cast.
- My OTP for the character
I think she's better off single for now. She's too good for all that romantic nonsense (and I think she DESPERATELY needs a break from it!)
- My favorite gen relationship with this character.
I can't think of anything that stands out. Sadly, the only people she had significant interaction with (Mako and her Dad) ended up screwing her over. :(
- An unpopular opinion about this character.
As far as I can tell, nearly EVERYONE agrees that Asami got the shaft and Mako is a slutty jerk.
- One thing I wish would [have] happen[ed] with this character in canon.
I really really REALLY wanted her and Korra to realize that Mako was a worthless two-timer and dump him.
....and maybe make out afterward. LOL

I drew all the good ones already, don't you think? XD
