Looking up bad PSAs on YouTube lead me to this 1984 video starring Henry Winkler and The Fonz (apparently, they're two different people) that was made to teach kids about sexual abuse. It uses clips from Hanna-Barbera cartoons to make it's point because Fonzie is not satisfied with stealing children's innocence by letting them know that rapists exist in the real world. He wants to make sure you know that rapists exist in Cartoon Land as well. And the rapists are gunning for you AND your dog!

Oh, and John Ritter is involved, too. Because why not.

Here's Scooby's scene.

I REALLY don't wanna know what would have happened if Fonzie hadn't been there to intervene! And the implications about that ghost just made every "Daphne gets kidnapped" scene in the original show 1 billion times more frightening. >_<
Oh, and Scrappy shows up later. So, if you never felt sorry for that pup before; well, now you do.

And here's the scene (skip to 3:15) where we find out that there are child molesters in Bedrock and Fred Flintstone has to constantly drill his poor daughter on how to avoid being tricked by them.

No wonder Pebbles ended up spending all her time with Bamm Bamm! I know I'd spend my life courting a guy with super strength if I grew up hearing lectures like THAT from my dad!! O_o

You can watch the whole thing on YouTube if you're feeling brave. The special is called "Strong Kids, Safe Kids". And it will alternate between making you laugh uncontrollably with it's horrible songs (yes, there are songs) and cry uncontrollably. And it may inhibit your ability to watch old cartoons without curling into a fetal position and sobbing for a while.

You may be asking why I chose to share this. It's because, if I have to suffer, I don't wanna do it alone.

What the heck my childhood?

I guess these are good messages to tell kids but.... Geez there's a better way to do it?

Yeah. I have a tiny bit of sympathy for the people hired to make this thing. I can't think of any way to explain this concept to a kid without making it scary.
...but I would at least have the decency to leave Scooby and Pebbles out of it.
