I can't be the only one who didn't buy the show's "pony genes are freakin' weird" explanation. So here's my theory on what's up with the Cake twins....

==============

==============

LOL. That nurse destroyed at least one marriage and doomed the bio-Cake Twins to a miserable childhood.

Seriously, I like this theory better than the show's implication that Mrs Cake cheated on her husband. It makes a lot more sense and it's WAY more kid friendly.
...that said, my first idea for this comic was to introduce a character named "John Redcolt" (cookies to anyone who gets the reference ~_^) because the idea of a John Redcorn pony was just hilarious! But I opted for the less tawdry idea in the end because Mrs Cake just doesn't strike me as that type.

Also, it was fun to dust off my colored pencils and play around with them again. I'll have to start coloring stuff more often. ^_^

And, before anyone says anything, I know I mis-spelled "racist". I didn't catch it until I scanned the damn thing and I didn't feel like getting my white-out and correcting it. Take this as a lesson to ALWAYS spell check the word balloons on your comics more than once before you ink them. :P

Nope, I sure didn't buy it, but I never thought cheating was involved. All I thought was that the creators wanted baby ponies to cause as much trouble as possible, but apparently that required pegasi and unicorn babies, because earthbound ponies can't cause trouble at all. (OH, THE IRONY.) Makes me wonder how many of the writers ever had kids or were babysitters.

Granted, I don't give the show much thought at all... I agree you ought to play with your colored pencils more though. Color is always nice. :)

I'm sure that's the reason the writers gave the Cakes flying, magic-wielding babies. But it still seemed odd to me that neither baby resembles their mother (even if she cheated, you'd think at least one of them would look a bit like her). So this is my new head-canon for them.

Now that I've re-discovered how fun color is; I'll try using it more. :)

Removing the "s" is an easy fix now that the comic is a digital image. Just "select" the speech balloon starting at "c" and including the end of the balloon. Then pull the selection left, shrinking the balloon and covering the "s". Next, use the eyedropper tool to pick up the colour outside the bubble and use the bucket tool to fill the space left blank by moving the bubble. Finis!

While the cuckoldry joke is funny, I interpret the shifty eyes as meaning: pony genetics is complex and not Mr Cake's specialty. Makes sense, right? ^_^

Are those instructions for Photoshop or MS Paint? Remember, I'm a dinosaur who still does everything by hand!

I hark from the Jurassic, how about you? ;^) Those would be valid MS Paint instructions, I've never used Photoshop. I'd use the free-hand selection tool in MS Paint, but it looks like the square one would work too.

The thing to beware of in MS Paint is that it is horrible at saving as .jpg -- it just makes everything blurry and pixelly. I save as a .bmp in MS Paint, and then re-save it as a .jpg in my picture-viewer program (I use Irfanview, it's free, it's small, it's fast, it doesn't nag or try to update itself). I just figured out like last week how to select a chunk out of an image and move it in Irfanview, but it's easier in MS Paint.

Thanks for the tip! I'll try it out (even though the white out method is probably easier)!

I'm thinking the writers/animators couldn't resist drawing baby pegasus and unicorn. Granted, I prefer to think that pony genetics are just crazy because magic is involve than that she cheated on him.

With that said, good comic! That would explain why their colouring is different.

I'm sure you're right. The writers wanted to torture Pinkie as much as possible. So they just said "screw it", gave the Cakes one of each, and wrote a half-assed explanation for it. XD

However, the "pony genetics are weird" speech doesn't jive with the other pony families we've seen thus far. And what happened to the Cakes doesn't seem to be common because all of the Mane 6 were shocked when they first saw the babies. And the "Mrs Cake cheated" theory doesn't make sense to me either because neither of the kids look a thing like her (plus it seems like an OOC thing for her to do). So the switched at birth theory is my new head canon. :)

You know what I just thought of? What if Poundcake and Pumpkincake were adopted, but the biological mother didn't want her identity revealed. So Mr and Mrs Cake made up the story to keep it private? That would explain it too and it's a bit nicer theory than the cheating or the nurses switched them around.

That theory is pretty cool, too. I could see the Cakes going along with a lie that makes them look bad to protect the bio-mom. And that theory is nicer because it doesn't result in another family having a crappy life due to a mistake.

You mean the punchline?
The joke is that the nurse switched the babies. So the Cakes got the other couple's twins and the other couple got the Cakes' babies. And the other husband thinks his wife cheated because the babies look nothing like him.

[livejournal.com profile] brendala! I thought you would get a kick out of this comic: http://equestria.fadri.org/034-offensive He/she stole your bit! You should sue!!!!! Totally! X^D (OK, ok, it wasn't quite your switched-at-birth joke, but close. -_^)

For some reason, my LJ marked your comment as spam. That's weird! O_o

Anyhoo, I highly doubt that person stole the idea from me. But should I be flattered if s/he did? XD
That comic is actually really good. Thanks for pointing me to it.

Eh, spam traps. I hate it when some computer program decides for me what I want to see... but then, there is just, so, much, spam. =8^0

Glad you liked it!
