Friendship is Magic meme, part 1: Favorite mane 6 character

Now that I've seen every episode, I thought it would be fun to tackle this old meme (hat tip to earthstar_moon ).

Day 1 - Favorite character from the mane cast.

It's really hard to pick one because I like them all for different reasons. But if I had to pick one, I'd pick Rarity.




When I started checking out this series, I never expected Rarity to be my favorite. But the writers did such a great job giving her dimension beyond the "shopaholic/rich bitch" stereotype that you normally associate with a fashion-obsessed character. I love that she's an artist and a businesswoman who works hard to EARN all the nice things she has (now that I think about it, how does Twilight earn money being a student? A grant from Celestia? Are her parents sending her an allowance?).

Anyhoo, I also love her because her character is really funny (props to the voice actress) and she has all the best songs.

Awesome, I can't wait to see some of your answers for this.

I never expected to enjoy Rarity this much either. Faust admitted she tried to have Rarity more as an "artist" rather than someone who just likes clothes. "She doesn't follow trends, she creates them." Also, she is one of the most hilarious ponies to watch. The whining joke alone always makes me laugh.

I'm pretty sure Twilight does misc. spells to help ponyville residents and makes money that way. I mean, she's always saving their collective asses. She might just be a librarian too. Those books aren't just for her.

That's actually a great theory. "Twilight is the town librarian" is now my head-canon.
