Date: 2011-08-19 09:23 pm (UTC)B) The runner up: If I had to choose, I'd pick Crystal (the love interest from the Alien Invaders movie). She was cute and I could see real chemistry between them.
C) The anti-ship: It's a tie...
a) Mystery Incorporated's Shaggy and Velma. If you saw the show, you know why. :P
b) Shaggy/Madelyn Dinkley. That mis-handled romance subplot dragged down an otherwise good movie. Madelyn came across as a Sue. And the age difference between her and Shaggy gave it a REALLY creepy vibe
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character: I think he had a bit more personality and intelligence in the original series and I wish more of the recent incarnations would go back to that characterization. It bugs me a bit that, in just about every post-1980s series, he comes across as borderline retarded.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why: Fred.
There's a small slash fandom for Fred/Shaggy out there, but I just don't see it (in ANY canon). Their personalities are just totally incomparable for anything deeper than friendship.

Date: 2011-08-21 06:45 am (UTC)I think it's kinda funny that What's New characterized Shaggy as a bit of a ladies man of all things (he had more than one love interest in the show and one episode centered around an ex-girlfriend of his). He even flirted with Velma in one of the movies! XD

I've never heard of that one! It sounds interesting though. Go ahead and shoot me a link! :)

Date: 2011-08-19 09:52 pm (UTC)A) My OTP: I think I'll go with Jem/Riot. Riot may be a philandering ass; but at least he's HONEST about the fact that he's a philandering ass. Rio acts like the perfect boyfriend while publicly humiliating his long term girlfriend by dating one of her employees. F**k that hypocrite!
...plus, Riot has better hair and a sexy voice. ~_^
B) The runner up: Jerrica/Pizazz. Because you KNOW they secretly want to! LOL
C) The anti-ship: Hard to pick one. ALL of her (their?) relationships are screwed up. :P
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character: Jerrica hides Jem from him not just because she's afraid of losing him; but also because she fears he'll do something vindictive like reveal her secret to the world for revenge. It's clear that they have trust issues. And Rio's temper and hypocritical pet peeve about liars makes me think that he totally would do that to her.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why: Eric Raymond. She only pretended to like him when they first met because it would piss off Rio. And pissing each other off with those silly mind games before making out seems to be the basis of their entire relationship.
....seriously, I think it's their version of fore play. >_<
ZELGADIS
A) My OTP: Zel/Amelia. I wasn't wild about this ship before Revo/Evo-R came around. But their interactions in that show finally sold me.
B) The runner up: I have two...
a) Zel/Lina: The novels implied that Zel had a slight crush on her. And, if things had gone a little differently, I could easily see them getting together.
b) Zel/Sylphiel: Zel seems to have a thing for the demure, quiet type girls (see: Miwan). Too bad he killed his chances with her by being a royal ass during their first meeting.
C) The anti-ship: Zel/Xellos. This ship is hella popular; but I don't even see the appeal on a purely crackish, yaoi level.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character: Can't think of anything. ^_^;
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why: See question C.

Date: 2011-08-20 01:14 pm (UTC)I am curious on how Riot would have reacted if he found out Jem and Jerrica were the same person. Think he would have been more understanding?

Date: 2011-08-21 05:28 am (UTC)In any case, the show would have made WAY more sense if Rio had been Jerrica's friend from the start instead of her boyfriend. The show never even gave a good reason for why she hid it to begin with.
As for the temper thing...Cristy Marx (the head writer) said in an episode commentary that she was pissed about some scenes that other writers put in that hinted at Rio having a violent/abusive side (like the infamous plant-kicking scene). I suppose those writers just felt the same was about Rio that we do. LOL

I think Riot would be impressed at Jerrica's ability to fool everyone (including her own boyfriend!) and would like her even MORE if he found out. Seriously! Twisted stuff like that seems to be what turns him on! XD

Date: 2011-08-21 01:33 pm (UTC)That makes sense, I always wondered why on earth Cristy Marx thought does scenes were a good idea for his character. I can't help but wonder that if they do make a new series they'll go with the friend angel for Rio. I think parents would be more vocal now if they went with the original angle of "It's okay that your boyfriend is cheating, as long as it's with a person who is like you in personality!" @_@
With that said, the Nostalgia Chick recently did a review of the series, but I knew that was a mistake since she never saw the show or grew up with it. She only saw the first season and said she couldn't watch anymore because she got too bored. She didn't really seem to understand the appeal of the show at all and that annoyed me greatly.

Date: 2011-08-21 09:41 pm (UTC)If they ever do remake Jem, I hope they either make Rio her friend instead of her boyfriend or do away with the "keep Rio in the dark" angle entirely and just let him know from the beginning.
I saw that Nostalgia Chick review. It didn't bother me that she didn't like it since she was only reviewing the first 5 episodes and, to be honest, those eps are pretty bad if you're not wearing your nostalgia goggles.
However, it did bother me when she gave the show grief because the characters randomly break into elaborate musical numbers. For goodness sake, Jem is a musical show about a bunch of professional singers in the gaudy 1980s! What did she expect them to do with the musical numbers? Have the characters stand still on a stage to sing their songs? Where's the fun in that?

Date: 2011-08-21 06:06 am (UTC)B) The runner up: I guess Scrooge/Magica has some appeal. In a cracky, Batman/Catwoman kind of way. LOL
C) The anti-ship: Scrooge/Mrs Beakley. It seems like an ideal shipping situation (they get along very well, they're about the same age, they live together, she takes care of him and his nephews, he dotes on Webby and let's her call him "Uncle", etc), but there's just no chemistry there. Mrs Beakley has no tolerance for Scrooge's frequent Indiana Jones-style adventures. And then there's the sticky issue of a rich man getting romantically involved with the help...
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character: I was kinda bummed when it was officially revealed that Scrooge didn't cause this epic moment of bad-assery...
...and that the ship's boiler merely blew up, he escaped in the chaos, and people exaggerated the event to make him look like a folk hero. I liked it better when the event was left as a myth and the reader could decide if they wanted to believe it or not. And it bugs me that the mystery was killed just to satisfy European readers who didn't like that scene because it made Scrooge look like some "American Superhero" (no really, tons of European readers wrote to Disney and complained about that scene!).
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why: See question C
