Over the past few months, I made two orders to an online comic shop called Midtown Comics. I looked around before choosing this place; and their prices, quality, and customer service were phenomenal! I was so impressed, that I just had to write this review and spread the word to anyone else who is interested in filling the holes in their comic book collections.
Condition
My orders consisted entirely of back-issues (some of which were pretty old). And all of them arrived in exactly the condition that the website promised. Heck, some of them were in much nicer condition than promised! Best of all, there was no additional charge for bags-and-boards (most other online comic shops charge for that)! EVERY comic (even the ones I paid a measly $0.60 for) came with very nice bags-and-boards that have built-in adhesive stripes so you can close them up.
The two orders I made were big (about 30 comics each), and they were delivered in large boxes reinforced with bubble wrap that was so sturdy I couldn't even pop it with my hands! So if you order from them, you can rest assured that your delivery will be safe from water damage and clumsy UPS employees. You won't get the pleasure of popping the bubble wrap; but at least your comics are unlikely to be damaged on their way to your home.
The only things I've bought from them thus far have been comic books, so I can't speak for everything else they sell (like figures, clothes, etc). But I'm sure the quality of those items is just as good.
Customer Service
Midtown Comics has a phone number you can call for customer service in addition to an e-mail address. This may seem like a little thing, but I'm old-fashioned and I LOVE having the option of speaking to an actual human being if I have a problem with my order. And this option came in handy because I had wonky internet for a few days after I placed my second order and couldn't check my order status online.
Pricing
If you shop around, you'll quickly find out that Midtown's prices simply can't be beat! I made two really big orders with them precisely because they were selling a ton of books I wanted for less than $1 each (and in good condition, too!).
I compared Midtown's prices to Mile High Comics and My Comic Shop (two other popular online comic stores) and Midtown sold the same issues at the same quality for WAY less money. Also, both Mile High and My Comic Shop lack a phone number AND they charge you for bagging and boarding a comic worth less than $5.
Overall
If there's a back issue of your favorite comic series that you need to track down, check Midtown Comics first. And for all you otaku out there, they sell out-of-print manga, too! ^_^
