This unlikely team-up was inspired by this conversation with
dqbunny . It's not exactly what you suggested, but I hope you like it anyway, hon. ~_^
Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby Doo are sick of watching their good names get dragged through the mud. They want to stop the impostors. But they can't do it alone...

Slayers TRY wasn't quite as blasphemous toward Lina's canon character as Mystery Incorporated is to Velma's. But the way she throws the Giga Slave around in TRY bothers me enough that I felt it deserved a mention here.

Also, you go girlfriend! HAVE DIGNITY VELMA.

Date: 2010-12-29 02:17 pm (UTC)The chart was supposed to apply to both the spider and Valgaav (if you look close, you'll see that Valgaav is the prison guy and one of the "talkers"). I guess I didn't do a very good job conveying that. ^_^;
*sigh* Mystery Incorporated would have been such a kick-ass show if they hadn't stripped Velma of her dignity and sanity. :(

Date: 2010-12-29 02:32 pm (UTC)Gah, tell me about it. character derailment is the worse. We should make our own scooby comics. They would rock.

Date: 2010-12-29 02:11 pm (UTC)I think that's one of the things Rev/Evo-R has over Try. After what happened in the first two season, Lina has no problem casting Giga slave again. However in the new seasons, it's the last thing she wants to do because she knows what the consequences could be.

Date: 2010-12-29 02:30 pm (UTC)That said, at least Evo-R Lina agonized about it and made it clear that she did NOT want to cast that spell. TRY-Lina comes across as eager to use it and that makes certain episodes of TRY very hard for me to watch without hitting the fast forward button.

Date: 2010-12-29 02:39 pm (UTC)Manga: Lina and the group were in a temple (I think?), therefore a closed space close to the being. Lina's able to use the Ragna Blade. The manga also didn't take out Lina's control - aka Gourry.
Anime: Lina and the others were at a distance and couldn't get close enough to do a Ragna Blade. The anime attacks did take out Gourry.
*stabs Try* Yes, like you, I agree with that completely. One of the things about the Giga Slave in Next and Evo-R was that Lina didn't just agonize over using it, but she finally did so to save a single man's life (and make all the shippers squee.) In both cases then, she didn't use it until Gourry's life was threatened.
I do think the Darkstar experience changed Lina and somehow widened her magical capacity to where she could handle the Giga Slave without such dire consequences, which is why she was able to barely pull it off in the anime version of Evo-R, where the manga version seemed to follow the previous manga series where that didn't happen. In its own weird way, each followed its own continuity.
