brendala: (PUP Vel Scooby hug)

This unlikely team-up was inspired by this conversation with [livejournal.com profile] dqbunny . It's not exactly what you suggested, but I hope you like it anyway, hon. ~_^

Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby Doo are sick of watching their good names get dragged through the mud. They want to stop the impostors. But they can't do it alone...

Slayers TRY wasn't quite as blasphemous toward Lina's canon character as Mystery Incorporated is to Velma's. But the way she throws the Giga Slave around in TRY bothers me enough that I felt it deserved a mention here.

This is AWESOME.

I love ow OCC lina keeps saying Giga Slave like a pokémon. Also, talking is the LAST solution on Velma's chart. I guess Velma doesn't like spiders either?

Also, you go girlfriend! HAVE DIGNITY VELMA.

Thanks!

The chart was supposed to apply to both the spider and Valgaav (if you look close, you'll see that Valgaav is the prison guy and one of the "talkers"). I guess I didn't do a very good job conveying that. ^_^;

*sigh* Mystery Incorporated would have been such a kick-ass show if they hadn't stripped Velma of her dignity and sanity. :(

So then, Valgarv is on an equal and/or inferior level to a spider? :D

Gah, tell me about it. character derailment is the worse. We should make our own scooby comics. They would rock.

I KNOW! If I had the time and skill, I would re-do Mystery Incorporated in comic form and fix the Velma/Scooby/Shaggy nonsense while keeping in the good stuff (like the Mr. E plot and Fred&Daphne's relationship).

We totally should!

I think the whole Velma/scooby hate is probably a side effect of people's need to add drama and angst to everything remade.

HAHA! This is awesome! You go Lina!

I think that's one of the things Rev/Evo-R has over Try. After what happened in the first two season, Lina has no problem casting Giga slave again. However in the new seasons, it's the last thing she wants to do because she knows what the consequences could be.

Word. I still wish that Evo-R had found a way to defeat Rezo without resorting to the Giga Slave (and I was thrilled when the manga adaptation did just that!). The Giga Slave kinda loses it's dramatic impact when Lina continually uses it and comes out just fine, y'know?

That said, at least Evo-R Lina agonized about it and made it clear that she did NOT want to cast that spell. TRY-Lina comes across as eager to use it and that makes certain episodes of TRY very hard for me to watch without hitting the fast forward button.

That being said though, I understand why they were able to do what they did in the two series:

Manga: Lina and the group were in a temple (I think?), therefore a closed space close to the being. Lina's able to use the Ragna Blade. The manga also didn't take out Lina's control - aka Gourry.

Anime: Lina and the others were at a distance and couldn't get close enough to do a Ragna Blade. The anime attacks did take out Gourry.

*stabs Try* Yes, like you, I agree with that completely. One of the things about the Giga Slave in Next and Evo-R was that Lina didn't just agonize over using it, but she finally did so to save a single man's life (and make all the shippers squee.) In both cases then, she didn't use it until Gourry's life was threatened.

I do think the Darkstar experience changed Lina and somehow widened her magical capacity to where she could handle the Giga Slave without such dire consequences, which is why she was able to barely pull it off in the anime version of Evo-R, where the manga version seemed to follow the previous manga series where that didn't happen. In its own weird way, each followed its own continuity.

The continuity thing is a good point (I didn't even consider that the Revo/Evo-R manga was supposed to follow the SEDS manga canon).

It may not, but it seems logical. Gah, the Slayers manga canon is just weird to begin with.

Bwhahaha!! I think this is perfect and addresses both issues very well! I can also see Velma trying to coach Lina to be more affectionate with Gourry.

*shifty eye* Maybe. I can't help it. That kiss meme from Prettio was a positive influence!
