FINALLY saw Megamind today

The free pass I got for helping Dreamworks make cosplay history was about to expire. So I finally got off my butt and went to see this thing.

Part of the reason I was reluctant to see this movie was because the idiots running the video screen at the Megamind Guinness event spoiled the big twist for me (they showed us the scene where Megamind and Roxanne find Metro Man hiding out in his fortress >_<). So, sadly, that killed some of the drama for me.

That said, I still loved this movie. The characters were all very likable and fun. The romance was handled wonderfully. And the creepy camera man becoming the new Big Bad was a cool twist. And the battles were really thrilling and fun to watch. This is something I will gladly buy on DVD (and not just because I might show up in the special features ^_~)

It's a good movie. I like how Megamind pokes fun at the superhero tropes. Plus, there are quite a few references too. ^_^

I found the creepy camera man to be genuinely frightening. Which is hard to do. The problem with a lot of cartoon villains is that they are so far down the road of evil... They aren't that scary. Children shows often make villains and heroes very separated to avoid frightening kids and define clearly the good and bad. We saw this villain evolve and keep this really creepy, stalker, frustrated side...

I think the camera man was genuinely scary because every girl of a certain age has met a dude like that. We've all had at least one unsettling experience with the skeevy loser in the office or in our circle of acquaintances who thinks he deserves a date (or a booty call) just because he acted "nice" to a girl. And, sadly, these types are fairly common in certain nerd circles. >_<

Those are the types that also complain about being good guys and finishing last. A real good guy is not like that.
