Commission characters
May. 18th, 2010 04:49 pmI recently agreed to do some commission drawings for an LJ user named Ladyxmoonlight (it's not a paid thing, its just for fun/practice). Here's hoping she likes them!
I didn't color any of the characters because coloring is VERY time consuming for me (I'm still stuck in the stone age using colored pencils :-P) and I didn't want to try it until I knew if the commissioner liked the designs.
The first character is a princess named Ascella. According to the description:
She is innocent, loving but smart. I imagine her in something flowy, sort of Celtic inspired with ivy and knotwork on it. She is a princess so she should look regal but with a softness. She has long, slightly wavy hair and a circlet style "crown" with her kingdom's symbol on a small jewel hanging from the center. What that symbol is will be up to you.
She also must have an amulet (either in her hand, around her neck or on a staff). It would have a long chain almost to her waist. If from a staff, I imagine it put into a fixture on the top with the chain hanging from it. The colors should be a deep plum with lighter pinks and reds for accent. I kind of imagine a lot of fancy accents (embroidery, underskirt peeking throught the bottom, stitching so on and so forth). She is a princess, afterall. She has black hair, cobalt blue eyes and though she dresses like royalty, it is on the simpler side.
I thought a sword with ivy would be a cool symbol/crest for the jewel and the amulet. But, like an idiot, I didn't realize how impossible it would be to make such an intricate symbol visible on tiny jewelry. Oh well, live and learn.

Since the description said the amulet could be "in her hand", I decided to design her with a special glove to hold the amulet. A glove seems like a more practical way for her to carry it around than a staff or a necklace with a huge chain.

...but, just for fun, I designed a staff anyway.

The second character is a royal knight:
He is a knight in the royal army so he should fancy clothing with some armor accents. I don't want him to look too much like he's directly off a battlefield but he should be sort of rough and tumble, a little rougish and dirty maybe. I sort of imagine him like a fancy Jedi of sorts. Or, like Prince Endymion of Sailor Moon...only toned down and a few more hints of armor.

The third character is an older prince named Caspius:
He is older, maybe slightly grey around the edges. He isn't too much older but a "distinguished older". He's cold and uncaring, ambitious and lecherous. Just a bit pervy. Kind of a Jafar type of guy. He prefers darker shades. He has dark brown hair and grey eyes and prefers very boastful, fancy things. He would have a very fancy crown. I imagine him with more Viking style clothing where Ascella and the knight are more Celtic inspired.
I had to kinda wing it with his clothes since the only thing that comes to mind when I think "Viking clothing" is fuzzy loinclothes and horned hats (and a google search only reinforced that stereotype lol). So instead I figured that a Viking prince would hail from a colder climate and gave his outfit a fur theme instead.

She never specified how old the characters were supposed to be. So I just tried to make Ascella and the Knight look between 16-25 years old and Caspius look between 35-45 years old.

Date: 2010-05-19 12:05 am (UTC)lol You did a good job winging it on things. A fuzzy loinclothe would not be very princely. Haha. You got it exactly right! I loooove the mutton chops, guh! You did great making the knight look like a knight but not like the whole in full battle armor type of thing. Pefect.
Thank you so much. Do you mind if I post them on my journal with credit and all that?
And, the "couple" picture makes me want to cringe...but its supposed to.

Date: 2010-05-19 01:01 am (UTC)Thanks. I'm really glad you like them. And it's totally cool with me if you put these up on your LJ with credit.
Also, just out of curiosity, how old are the characters supposed to be?
And thank you for taking out the plot points I ave in the descriptions, you even took out things I hadn't thought of!
I didn't want to reveal too much because you said you planned on using these characters in a published story. So I wanted to play it safe and only post the information that described their physical appearance and basic personalities.

Date: 2010-05-19 01:37 am (UTC)Prince Caspius would be in his early 40's. He'd be old enough to have established somewhat of a reputation for him and his kingdom and he'd be ruling it himself so he couldn't possibly be too young. I also didn't want him TOO old because...well, just because I do want him sort of the "creepy, pervy older guy" but not so old most people are like okay ew wtf.
And, you totally inspired me to get writing on this series like...now. lol

Date: 2010-05-19 07:31 am (UTC)(Ehm, I don't want to be nitpicky but Vikings actually didn't wear horned helmets, and I'm pretty sure furs were limited to winter wear. The stereotype's really common though XD;)
