On Saturday, I went with some friends to a brand new comic convention in Long Beach. I was a little worried that there would be nothing to do because this is the convention's first year; but it was great! For a first year con, they were really well organized. There were lots of good panels. And there's a lot of cool stuff in walking distance of the convention center.

I think it's funny how the Long Beach convention center looks like a miniature version of the San Diego convention center. XD

Venture Brothers cosplayers were all over the place (but this was the only one I snapped a photo of).

I LOVE this picture! It looks like R2D2 joined Organization XIII!

This guy was awesome. He made his own Yoda puppet and, when he's not taking it to cons, he takes it to children's hospitals for charity events (his Yoda voice is pretty good, too).

The cutest little Black Lantern EVER!

I WANT THIS CAR!!!

I wish I could get a DS set-up like this for my house. Playing the Zelda demo with the two big screens was lots of fun! I totally want to buy this game when it comes out!

This is the Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant mascot (Bubba Gump is a restaurant inspired by the movie Forrest Gump). I wanted to eat there until I got a look at their menu in the tourist area in the convention center. The prices were a little too high for my tight budget. :(

The pier next to the convention is beautiful. It's a great place to take a walk between panels! Lucky for me, the weather was perfect on Saturday.

While waiting for the concert at the end of the night, my friends and I got a bite to eat and rode the ferris wheel behind the Borders across the street.

At the end of the night, there was a concert for a fanboy band called Kirby Krackle. They sing original songs inspired by comics and video games and stuff like that. They're really good. Their songs are on MySpace if you want to check them out.

SWAG TIME:
One of my highlights from the con was finding this Slayers artbook at an anime booth for only $20! Slayers stuff is so hard to find even at big anime conventions. So finding this at a tiny first year comic convention was really exciting. If anyone wants scans, let me know! ^_^

I found these Terry Moore Paradise Too books in a 50 cent bin. SWEET!

Five comics and a t-shirt for $5! The comics were an impulse buy. I hope they don't suck (I haven't read them yet). ^_^;;

Some freebies (and a 50 cent comic) from the anime booth.

The program and free comics that came with my ticket.

And, last but not least, a beautiful Long Beach sunset (I took this at the top of the ferris wheel).

My friends, my sister, and I have fallen out of love with the San Diego Comic Con because it's become WAY too big and corporate over the years. But The Long Beach Comic Con is the perfect size. If you live in California (or you're ever here in October) I highly recommend going!

You live in SoCal?

I didn't know about this con either until one of my friends told me about it (he's a HUGE convention junkie LOL).

I've actually thought about going to Little Tokyo to hunt down Slayers stuff. But I think the shops and bookstores in the Japanese neighborhoods would only sell stuff from newer shows.
