The "Octo-Mom" thing

I'm starting to feel really homesick here in Colorado. So lately I've been checking out the local news online from my real home back in SoCal (Southern California). And it turns out that a major scandal regarding the mother of octuplets has popped up not too far from my hometown! Most of you have probably heard of it by now (the story is even popping up in international news sources!). Its always kinda wierd when these big, international stories pop up in your backyard. Here's a link to the story for the 3 people who haven't heard about it yet.
The mom is a loon for sure. But I think her fertility doctor deserves more of the blame. The woman was unemployed, on welfare, unmarried, living with her mom, mentally unstable, and she already had 6 kids. I hate to play "tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist", but part of me wonders if she was paid to participate in some risky IVF clinical trail by a shady doctor and/or company that took advantage of her mental state. IVF isn't cheap. Well-to-do couples with good health insurance save up for years to do it once. There's no way an unemployed single chick living on welfare could afford to do it multiple times unless something serioulsy wrong is going on.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying the Octo-Mom is a blameless saint. Its also highly likely that she's just an oppertunistic bitch who's trying to use her babies as a stepping stone to fame, fortune, and her own reality show.
*sigh* I usually don't get so caught up in tabloid stories. But my friends and relatives back home talk about this woman a lot whenever I call them lately. So the story is stuck in my mind now. :P
