Princess Jellyfish Review:

Every female nerd should watch this series. Seriously, this show does an AMAZING job of capturing the dynamic of a bunch of oddball, dorky chicks living under one roof. It’s hard to articulate my love for this show in a traditional review, so I’ll just be lazy and make a list of reasons why I think this should be required viewing for everyone…

I had about a week off for the holidays. This is what I chose to do with it...

I already have an idea for how I want the rest of this story to play out. The only thing holding me back is the fact that I suck MASSIVELY at drawing the Disney Duck characters. But I'll probably try anyway because I REALLY dig this idea!

I'll do a real review of this movie later on. But for now, have a goofy fan-comic!

Also, this should go without saying, but this comic contains major spoilers for the end of the movie.

Silly fan-comic under the cut.... )

For those of you who have never played a Sly game....I swear, I'm not exaggerating here! The differences between the original trilogy and the sexist abomination that was Sly 4 really is THIS EXTREME!!

Seriously, when you actually sit down and compare how Sly is characterized in the Sucker Punch trilogy vs Sly 4, the difference is....pretty stark. Mainly regarding the way he treated women.

It’s been a while since I practiced on my new tablet. So I went and colored a simple sketch to play around with a fun idea I had.

Regarding Baloo’s design: I know that the “John Goodman look” fits his character/voice the best. That’s why pretty much every artist who humanizes the characters (myself included) has used that type of design. However, it occurred to me that, since Baloo and Shere Khan kept their Indian-sounding names from The Jungle Book, it technically makes more sense for their human dopplegangers to look Indian.
Also, I’m pretty sure no one else has drawn him like this before. So, +1 for originality. LOL

Tl;dr my goal with this one was to make Baloo look like an “Indian John Goodman”. I hope I succeeded.

I solicited my f-list for Halloween themed art ideas. These were the results:

I also solicited art requests at the [livejournal.com profile] scooby_doo community I moderate. Here are the results of that thread:

Naga would totally eat up Halloween (and it's abundance of "Sexy [Whatever] Costumes").

And in case you couldn't tell from my messy scribbles, Lina and Gourry are dressed up as Xena and Gabrielle respectively.

A few weeks back, I was watching a friends daughter while she took care of some stuff at work. To keep her occupied, I brought out my sketchbook and asked her for comic ideas. This is what she came up with...

First she asked for Spongebob. And I apologized to her for my inability to draw him properly (I haven't watched the show in years)

Then she told me all about the Lego Batman Movie she watched the night before (I didn't even know that movie existed!). And started asking for Batman comics. And that's when things got fun!

First, she wanted a Batgirl drawing:

Then she asked me to draw Catwoman running away from a police man and a dog:

So...a game called The Last of Us is slowly eating up my life. It hasn't knocked Sly 2: Band of Thieves off my "best games of all time" list yet. But it's coming VERY close to tying with it!

My first play-through was on the easy mode. Then I did a 'new game plus' so I could plow through the enemies like Rambo instead of stealthing my way past zombie "infected" hordes. And now I'm currently re-playing it on the hard mode. And this is something I NEVER do with my games because I never understood the appeal of replaying a game on a masochistic, nigh-impossible difficulty setting. But I this game makes me WANT to. And keep in mind, I normally HATE the shoot-'em-up/spooky/survivor type games.

Also, I turned on the French language track for my hard mode re-play just for funsies (and because I need to practice my rusty Français. XD)

I want to go on about how AMAZING the story is, but I don't want to risk spoiling it for you guys. So I'm just gonna say that I HIGHLY recommend playing this game with a box of tissues handy.

ART POST!!

First up, random Inspector Sly Cooper AU series (because I've been neglecting that poor thing)

Next up, a "how it should have ended" comic for the China level of Sly 3.
I decided to try my hand at doing a "How it should have ended" AU in storybook form instead of a comic. Basically, I just put in random scenes and images and accompanied them with text descriptions. It was pretty fun and it allowed me to be less self-concious about how polished the drawings look. Since most of my art gets done at work (where I can't use my fancy light box and T-ruler), I can't really do a lot of polished things these days.

First up, the surprisingly non-awful scratch/brain-storming scribbles:
brainstorm! )

A.U. COMIC

I adore the original Sly Cooper trilogy. However, one of it's few flaws is the fact that there aren't many female protagonists (though Sly 2 has one of the most awesome female villains EVER). And you rarely see two female characters interact. So I thought it would be fun to re-write one of the storylines in the third game to give the girls stuff to do together.

I recently came to the realization that I don't draw enough Naga. This needs to change:

And here is Naga's most likely reaction upon meeting Gourry:

Slayers under the cut.... )

Next up, more Sly Cooper AU comics to ease the pain caused by the-game-that-shall-not-be-named. This comic could fit into the Sly Cooper AU that [livejournal.com profile] earthstar_moon and [livejournal.com profile] gullwhacker are helping me with. But it can also stand on it's own as a "this is what should have happened" comic

THIS is what their reunion in Sly 4 would have been like if that game hadn't been written by fanboys who cared more about inserting fuzzy T&A in the game than they cared about writing half-decent female characters (and good stories to go with them).

Good News: I managed to find my favorite brand of doodle pens (which I believed weren't being made anymore) on a Wal-Mart shelf

Bad News: The packages only came in wacky colors (no plain black ones). So expect some rainbow colored sketches for a while

Don't worry Jo & Stu! I didn't forget! I just got distracted by life. ^_^;

For those who don't know, I've been collaborating with [livejournal.com profile] earthstar_moon and [livejournal.com profile] gullwhacker to make an AU-version of Sly Cooper 4 because the actual Sly Cooper 4 was sexist and horrible. So far, we've just thrown together short stories and random doodles. But it's a very fun and cathartic way to vent some steam and imagine how good a forth game could have been if it wasn't written by perverted furries.

Onto the brainstorms!

DOODLES! )

I already wrote a gushing review about the genius of this game's story and the brilliance of it's ending. Now, it's time to show the game some more affection in the best way I know how: STUPID PARODY COMICS!!!!!
...and, let's face it, Joel and Ellie desperately need some levity in their lives.

EVERY comment in this cartoon is based on DA comments and notes that I've actually received.

Sadly, a frightening amount of people seem to think that an artist's time has no value and that it's a personal slight if we don't IMMEDIATELY draw a stranger's random art request. And a LOT of people also seem to think that it's perfectly okay to send unsolicited requests to draw gross fetish/porn art to artists that clearly aren't into that sort of thing.

I'm grateful that people like my work. But it would be nice if I didn't get so many creepy comments and requests.

NO SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTS, PLEASE!!! I HAVEN'T FINISHED THE GAME YET!!!!!

I doubted that this game would live up to the hype. But...wow.
I don't want to dub it a masterpiece before I get to the ending (sadly, I've seen lots of games start great only to crap out in their final hours). But so far this one is blowing me away (and I normally HATE the survival/horror/shooter genres)

The way Ellie was handled REALLY surprised me (in a good way). Modern games have a lot of.....issues when it comes to handling female characters (**cue obligatory rant about the-game-that-shall-not-be-named**). And games don't do much justice to kid characters, either. But Ellie's behavior and dialogue actually feels REAL! Her dialogue feels like it's being delivered by a teenage girl and not some 30-year-old male writer's idea of what a teenage girl would sound like.

It's so jarring to see a female lead character in a game actually behave like a human being instead of spank material and/or a lame plot device. And I'm torn between enjoying it and cynically waiting for a fridge to drop on her.

This next drawing has a slight spoiler for the middle of the game, so it's going under a cut:

Please forgive my incompetence at drawing Duck characters. But I just had to express my love for them in art form!

I've beaten this game twice already. I bought a PS3 just so I could play it and it was worth EVERY PENNY!! It's like experiencing a lost episode of the original cartoon!

If you love Ducktales, Disney, old school gaming, and/or beautiful hand-drawn animation, BUY THIS GAME NOW! The sprites are GORGEOUSLY animated and replicate both the look of the cartoon and the feel of the 1989 video game flawlessly. And, for all the people who just want to experience the story without the sadistic old-school NES difficulty, there's an Easy Mode available to play.

And yes, the iconic money bin is a mini-game that you get to swim around in! :)

In short, BUY THIS GAME AND BUY IT NOW!!!!
It's hella fun. And if it sells well, maybe we'll get a remake of the equally awesome 1989 Rescue Rangers NES game. And I want this to happen more than you will ever know!! ^_^

Now I'm targeting my crazy doodle pen at the Talespin cast! And I'm humanizing them because I'm still kinda crappy at drawing animals/anthros

I think it came out pretty good considering I didn't use reference pictures (I did this at work)

Yeah, I had no choice but to change up Rebecca's hair. But the Betty Paige bangs still kinda work for her. And, hard as I tried, I couldn't keep human-Wildcat from coming out looking like Shaggy from Scooby Doo. LOL

Oh, and Becky/Baloo was one of my first OTPs. Anyone who watched the show knows why.

And I did another design page later on because I had different ideas regarding Baloo and Shere Khan:
