brendalaDay 16 - What is the absolute worst pairing?
Matt Ishida and Sora Takenouchi from Digimon season 2
Sora and Matt are the ones on the far left. And I have no idea why Sora is posed as if she's in desperate need of a potty break. O_o
The ending of Digimon 02 is legendary for it’s what the fuckery; and not just because of the shipping issues (a lot of plot threads were left dangling in the end).
My sister and I were big Tai/Sora fans when we were kids watching Digimon on Saturday morning. Tai and Sora were heavily pushed in the first season and the movie (one side plot in the movie involved Tai sending Sora a love letter!). And, while we didn’t see much of Sora and Tai together in the second season (mainly because all the focus was on the new group of kids), the implication was still there. But then in the final episode of season two we see a “25 years later” flash forward and Sora is married to….Matt. And Matt (the average kid who spent his teen years in a rock band) grew up to be an astronaut. What the hell!?
The pairing wouldn’t bother me as much if we had gotten any indication that Sora and Matt liked each other romantically. After all, most people don’t end up marrying the first person they ever crushed on (especially if that first crush happened at the tender age of 12). But I don’t think Sora and Matt ever exchanged words at all in season two. They were just randomly together in the end. All of the other Digidestined Kids aside from Ken and Yolei were shown with little clone children and the audience was left to guess who they married. I wish they had just gone that route with all the characters instead of deciding which couples would be canon via the scientific method of closing their eyes and throwing two darts at a picture of the cast.

Amelia and Zelgadis (Slayers)
I was never against this ship. But at first I wasn’t keen on shipping them because it felt like more of a “pair the spares” type of thing than a genuine romance that had chemistry and was built over time like Lina and Gourry’s. But their interactions in Revolution/Evolution-R (and one of Crispin Freeman’s ad-libs in Premium) finally succeeded in winning me over.
Heck, in Revo/Evo-R, I think they have a little bit more romantic chemistry than Lina and Gourry. Maybe it’s just me, but the way Amelia apparently fell out of puppy love with him and started noticing his annoying faults (and wouldn’t hesitate to point them out) made them seem like an old married couple! It’s certainly a far cry from the coy, awkward, blushing mutual crush they had going on in the previous 3 seasons. It made Amelia come across as more mature and a better match for Zelgadis than the Amelia we met in seasons 1-3.
