Yuri Hyuga and Alice Elliot
For those who aren’t familiar with the video game series Shadow Hearts (sadly, I’m sure that’s most of you) I’ll explain this one. Yuri Hyuga and Alice Elliot were the protagonists in the first Shadow Hearts game. At the end of that game, Alice died in order to save Yuri's life because she was madly in love with him (and vice versa). The sequel (Shadow Hearts: Covenant) follows Yuri about two years after that. In the beginning of the sequel, Yuri talks about missing Alice. But he’s constantly smiling, goofing around, and cracking silly/dirty jokes; so you get the impression that he’s moved on. And so does one of his new female party members, Karin Koenig...
Did I mention that Karin is awesome? Because she totally is! Too bad her main in-game outfit is hideous!
....but then one of his old friends offers him the opportunity to use forbidden magic to bring Alice back to life. Yuri knows it’s wrong because this magic caused untold chaos in the first game (think the homunculus in Full Metal Alchemist); but he tries it anyway….

It’s a really emotional scene if you’ve played the games and know the characters. It’s at this point that Karin realizes that Yuri will never love her back because he’s still hopelessly in love with Alice. It’s so powerful that I sometimes forget to laugh at Yuri’s goofy “cry face”.
The only flaw in this scene is the fact that Veronica Taylor isn’t in it. She played Alice in the first game and her sophisticated, slightly-accented voice fit the character WAY more than the generic “chirpy American” anime voice she had in the sequel. The actress in the sequel isn’t bad, she just sounds bland compared to Taylor (but, then again, who doesn’t?)

FUN FACT: In the first Shadow Hearts game, Alice and Yuri are voiced by Veronica Taylor and Eric Stuart (which is why I felt compelled to draw that cracky fanart seen above). The voice acting is so sparse in SH1 that it’s not much of a distraction and Taylor’s Alice voice sounds NOTHING like her Amelia voice anyway. But it’s still funny if you’re a hardcore (dubbed) Slayers nerd like me. Especially since his love interest in the sequel is a feisty redhead.
And if you're wondering why Gourry is practically naked in the fanart, it's because Yuri's special RPG superpower is fusing with spirits/demons and his ultimate form looks like this:
That's right. Shadow Hearts games are chock full of man-service! ~_^
FUN FACT #2: In the Japanese version of Shadow Hearts 1&2, Yuri's name is "Urnmapf Bort Hyuga". The character is half-Japanese/half-Russian and, apparently, the Japanese developers thought "Urnmapf" sounded kinda Russian-ish and ran with it. Lucky for us English-speaking fans, the people who localized the games changed the character's name to something far more approiate ("Yuri" is a common name in both Japan and Russia) that doesn't sound like the noise you make before you vomit. So now every time some weeaboo tells me that name changes are NEVER EVER justified under any circumstance, I point to Mr.Hyuga and tell them to stuff it.
