Work was boring today. So I scribbled more stuff for that awesome "Alternate Sly 4 & 5" outline that
earthstar_moon and
gullwhacker came up with! :)
First up is my idea for how Carmelita and Penelope become a team and why Carmelita ends up turning on Sly (and leaving behind her beloved law enforcement career).
Basically, my idea is that Sly catches Penelope in Holland not long after she starts the Black Baron con job. Penelope ends up getting stuck with all the blame for the dirty tricks the pilots pulled while competing in "The Baron's" competition. And because Penelope had the bad luck to turn 18 just before she was caught, Sly decides to make an example of her my meting out an extreme punishment in the hopes that her suffering will serve as a deterrent.

My other idea is that Penelope is still underage when she's arrested (probably about 16), but Sly decides to start instituting harsher sentences for juvenile offenders because he believes it will reduce juvenile crime. And he decides to make a public example of Penelope because of the fame/notoriety of "The Black Baron" despite knowing that she wasn't responsible for most of the unlawful things that happened when she was posing as The Baron. Carmelita tries to reason with him and other Interpol superiors, but it doesn't do any good.
Seeing Penelope's mistreatment triggers Carmelita's first loss of faith in the justice system. And it ends up being the straw that breaks the camel's back and prompts her to go rogue.

And here are some random images I drew because I thought they would be cute.

And if you're wondering why I alternated between anthro and human designs.....I did it because it was fun. ^_^

Date: 2013-06-18 11:37 am (UTC)One idea is that in the new timeline Sly has to get the thievius raccoonus from his dad to get the time machine working again. However, when it comes to actually fighting his dad Sly can't bring himself to do it.
So, his dad tells him "All right son, you want to book you have to earn it. Steal it from my old buddies (Dr. M, etc" and then when you go back, you have to race Sly's dad to the book.
Then when you get the book Sly's dad goes "Well done, son." Figured would be a good "aw" moment for Sly. XD

Date: 2013-06-19 12:38 am (UTC)"Hold out your handcuffs," Carmelita told me. "And don't move an inch." She shot her pistol and I shut my eyes as the shot struck the handcuffs. I felt the handcuffs vibrate as they absorb the electricity, before there was a beep and the latch flew up and the handcuffs fell off.
"Thanks," I said as I rubbed my wrists. "But I would have had them off in a minute."
Carmelita gave me a smirk. "Wouldn't have been a good idea unless you wanted to get blow up."
I stopped massaging my wrists and froze. "Say what?"
Carmelita kicked the handcuffs to the side of the van in disgust. "Those handcuffs are designed to locked onto the criminal's DNA." She folded her arms and stared at me seriously. "And if that person tried to pick the lock they self destruct and let's just say there's one huge mess to clean up."
I had no words and slowly looked back to the handcuffs I was seconds away from picking at if Carmelita hadn't arrived.
"The only way to get them off," she continued. "Is to use the original key or give them a major blast of energy that short circuits them."
I rose slowly as I took in this information. "That's insane," I stated. "What whacko came up with this brilliant idea!"
"Inspector Cooper," Carmelita replied flatly as she lead me out of the van.
I gave a sigh and quickly went to follow. "I never thought I would say this, but I'm really beginning to hate me."
"Join the club ringtail!" said Carmelita a little too cheerfully.

Date: 2013-06-19 01:25 pm (UTC)And I really like the idea of Sly finding a middle ground between his old belief that his dad was a saint (which is understandable considering he lost him at a young age) and the realization that Daddy-Cooper had flaws and moral weaknesses just like everyone else.

Date: 2013-06-19 01:30 pm (UTC)And I like the idea of the sadistic trick handcuffs and Carmelita's trick for beating them
I'm thinking it would be fun to make "storybook" type things for the AU idea. Basically, descriptive text and/or short story text with pictures and short comics sprinkled in. It's easier than writing full fics and comics (plus nobody has to put a ton of work into figuring out the complicated science of the time-travel/AU stuff LOL). And it would be a fun, loose way to collaborate. What do you two think?

Date: 2013-06-19 09:49 pm (UTC)I like this plan, especially since neither of us have the time to write the whole thing out. However, doing it in a storybook form for random scenes would be a great way to get it out of our systems. XD

================
Don't worry. He'll learn that lesson soon and by level 3 he'll be MUCH smarter about taking advantage of her presence. ~_^
Speaking of Carmelita, I freakin' LOVE her first playable mission! Playing her is fun (once you're used to her controls). And I got a kick out of seeing all those burly, macho mercenaries begging her to single-handedly save their asses (and without a hint of shame about being saved by a chick). XD

Date: 2013-06-20 04:58 am (UTC)Also, I drew the handcuff scene at work today! And then I scribbled some musings/designs about Sly's mother and what she may have been like.
I had some trouble figuring out what she'd look like and what kind of animal she'd be. So I ended up making her look like one of those "generic Disney Dog-People". :P

Date: 2013-06-20 01:22 pm (UTC)Also, I like the idea of Sly's mom being a museum tour guide. That makes sense and is fitting.

Date: 2013-06-20 01:55 pm (UTC)Anyway, I envisioned two confrontations with Sly's father. The first is a bit of a fake-out - a boss 'fight' that ends the first time Sly tries to attack, and can't bring himself to do it. Probably some trickery in that involving Sly's father using his pipe to make smoke rings and clouds.
The second one, after Sly has 'proven' himself, is a race to the Thievius Racoonius. The trick, naturally, is that it's set up to use Sly's father's signature skill - which is (from what I've read) a laser-rail-slide. A web of lasers between you and the book, and you have to keep up by sliding along them.
The trick? Sly's father still has his pipe, and blows smoke rings...which interrupt lasers that you're sliding on and make them cut out long enough for you to fall.
I figured that could be a fun penultimate battle. *grin*

Date: 2013-06-28 08:47 am (UTC)In the meantime, here's another pic for the AU verse. I decided to play around with Penelope and Bentley and their reactions to regaining the memories from their former lives.
I don't know if they would ever meet in the AU-verse before Normal-Sly barrels in to fix everything and restores their memories. But if they met (or simply heard about one another through the grapevine), I could imagine him having a low opinion of her and feeling HORRIBLE about it later on.
Also, I can see Bentley wanting to do a bunch of stuff he always thought he couldn't do for her when he was in the wheelchair (like dancing, for example). And a metric ton of sappy scenes where she assures him that she never cared about his disability.
I wrote up my ideas for Neyla before I read your contributions to the Wiki. And I have to say that I like yours better. The part where she dates Sly (presumably in order to manipulate her way to the top of interpol?) only to be dumped IMMEDIATELY when he finds out she's a crook was a nice touch. I'm thinking that, unlike her fake flirting in Sly 2, she may have genuinely liked the "evil" version of him. And she likely didn't take the break up well.
I really want to draw up a scene where Bentley has some sort of confrontation with Neyla AFTER regaining his old memories. Or maybe just a scene where he simply sees her walking around through his binucom and has a PTSD breakdown upon seeing her again with his old memories/personality restored. Not just because she was the one who crippled him. But also because her betrayal caused him to spend all those weeks alone and utterly terrified that he may never see his friends again (which, imo, was probably more traumatic for him than he ever let on).
Also, for the life of me, I couldn't decide what to make AU-Neyla look like. There really is no good reason to change her appearance or wardrobe. But I figure, if everyone else is getting a makeover, why not her? LOL
And I LOVED what you wrote for Dimitri's bio! The idea that he remembers everything because GREASY SWEET is brilliant!!!
We shouldn't even bother to explain it because it's so funny I don't care about all the plotholes it opens up!! XD
I can see it now.....
-Normal Sly: Don't worry, Dimitri! I wont hurt you because I'm-
-Dimitri: It's cool, Bro! I know all about your wacky Twilight Zone adventure to stick it to your evil twin!
-Normal Sly: Wait....HOW!? How could you possibly know! I didn't bop you with the cane or anything!
-AU Bentley [post memory restoration]: It's scientifically impossible! How could YOU of all people catch on before ME!?
-Dimitri: I remember because my brain stem is greasy sweet!
-AU Bentley & Sly:........*shrugs* Works for me!

Date: 2013-06-28 08:47 am (UTC)What I liked the most about the Wiki stuff you guys posted thus far was the Sly 4 write up. Having Sly be the ONLY one with immunity makes more sense and opens up a lot of great dramatic potential when memories start changing and Penelope disappears.
Also, Sly being horrified when they lose Penelope and Bentley doesn't even remember her is GREAT! Not only would it make for a powerful scene; but you actually acknowledged that she's a friend who MATTERED to him and that Sly is fully capable of caring about women even when he isn't actively trying to make out with them.
Sadly, these concepts were lost on the people who wrote the actual game. :(

Date: 2013-06-28 01:20 pm (UTC)Thus, Sly still ends up being friend with Murray and Bently.
Everything goes loopy again for a minute and Sly finds himself in the apartment living with Carmelita like in the beginning of the fourth game.
He quickly calls Bently and asks him questions about this timeline. Much to Sly's relief everything seems back to normal, Bently and Penelope are still together (they had gotten they book and Bently is still in his chair by the way) and Murry is currently racing cars, and everything has been restored mostly back to the original timeline.
After his call, Carmelita enters the room
Carmelita dressed in an evening gown: Sly? You're not dressed yet?
Sly: Uh, yeah sorry, I was just about to.
Carmelita: Well, hurry it up. I don't want to be late for dinner. It was sweet of your parents to treat us for our first anniversary.
*Sly then notices a framed photo of Sly and Carmelita getting married with his parents in the photo, his father is using a cane, but still alive*
Sly:....I'm married to Carmelita, I can live with this change!

Date: 2013-06-29 06:20 am (UTC)Personally, I thought the Holland level was a bit irritating gameplay-wise (I still struggle with the aerial dogfights :P). But I got a kick out of Carmelita's fight with Mugshot. Mainly, the part where she said "Yep. I'm the 'cop hag' who arrested your ass in Mesa. And I'm gonna do it again!". XD
The China level is my favorite in the game. I think it did a great job of showcasing every character (and their new play mechanics). The story was cool and the missions were genuinely fun (I ADORE the one with Sly, Carmelita, and the battery!)
Also, I think China had the best two boss battles of the ENTIRE series! I love replaying the Tsao treetop fight in challenge mode! ^_^

Date: 2013-06-29 01:32 pm (UTC)I like the story of the China level and the character development for Sly especially. (You really can't blame him for being reluctant to work with the Panda King). I LOVED playing as Carmelita and chasing as Sly we were both laughing the whole way. What was especially funny was when we were doing Panda King's chat with himself my brother walked in the room, looked at the screen and asked "What the heck are you guys playing?"
I have to admit, I was getting frustrated with the Tsao fight and the dragon and had it to Stu. With that said, Stu and I couldn't help but notice how angry Sly got when Tsao was talking about Jing King like she was an object.
Sly was truly a gentleman, they changed that in the fourth game why? @_@

Date: 2013-06-30 01:04 am (UTC)Personally, I'm glad that The Guru was spared from that awful game. Sanzaru probably would have had him shove dollar bills into Carmelita's g-string and/or command a wolf to bite Penelope in the throat or something like that. >_<
