Scooby Fanart: "Bromance"

Another "bored at work" drawing.

I recently realized that we see very little of Shaggy & Fred interacting and being pals in any of the Scooby canons. So I did these quick sketches to figure out what they do when the girls are gone:

.....as you can see, I drew a total blank and just said "oh well. NOOGIES!!!!"


I realized after the fact that the drawings come across as mildly slashy. Which is weird because Fred/Shaggy is the only romantic ship in the gang that I could NEVER see working out in any canon. Those two are just too different (and not in a cute, complementary way) and Shaggy just doesn't ping the gaydar at all. But that's just my opinion. Your mileage may vary. :P




Anyhoo, this got me wanting to draw more buddy pics of Shaggy and Fred. But I have no clue what they would do together without the girls around (and I really want to believe that they have a friendship that's deeper than "we're friends because of the girls"). Any suggestions? I'd love to get some artistic inspiration and/or discussions out of this. :)

You're right that they are extremely different, but then again, aren't Velma and Daphne just as different as night and day? :o

Obviously, it depends on the canon; but I don't think Velma and Daphne are all that different. They both like mysteries and having fun. And, despite fanboy stereotypes, Velma isn't any less "girly" than Daphne. She just doesn't share Daphne's love of high fashion and immaculate hair. So shipping them as friends and/or lovers isn't a big stretch.

I can't put my finger on exactly why; but I just don't see Fred and Shaggy's differences complimenting each other the way that, say, Shaggy's and Velma's do. So I drew a blank when I tried to figure out how they would interact and relate to each other without the girls around. That's why I made this post asking for ideas about what they might do together.

The girls would have an easier time bonding, fashion or not.

Still, night club idea? Or, how about what Finn and Jake love to do and have the guys go on their own adventure, just without the girls tagging along?

Aaaaaaaaaand this reminds me that I gotta get my hands on the Marceline and PB's own mini-comic series. Since we haven't seen those two bond more in canon, it's so awesome that they're gonna have their own adventure saga!

'Cause if it is I NEED to get that book on my comic shop pull list ASAP!!!! XD
