So, for those of you who don't know, there's a measure on the San Francisco ballot to ban circumcision for anyone under the age of 18. The proponents of the bill say that circumcision is no better than female genital mutilation and shouldn't be forced on babies who can't consent to it.
Believe it or not, I can understand where the proponents of the bill are coming from. I identify as Jewish (though it's more of an ethnic identity than a religious one), but I also believe that it's probably best to leave kids the way God made them.


However, because we're talking about San Francisco (one of the most Anti-Semitic places in America), it's not surprising that many of the people pushing this bill are more Anti-Jew than pro-children's rights. Check out these scans from this lovely comic book being distributed in the city by politicians and other proponents the bill:




It gets worse. The comic cover (which I'm putting under a cut because the title is mildly NSFW) features a blonde, blue-eyed superhero saving helpless babies from evil, scissor-wielding Rabbis who look like The Joker with dark hair, beards, and hook noses.

As much as I loved Wonder Con, stuff like this is gonna make me think twice before ever setting foot near that city again! Seriously, screw that place and screw all the racist goyim in it!!

I did hear about this recently! I think it's completely ridiculous! Circumcision does have some benefits to it that extend beyond making covenants with God, but I guess people don't want to look at that aspect. Far better to save our baby boys from the barbaric practice of snipping a flap of skin.

Should I expect them to go after baptizing babies next? After all, it borders on water torture! Sheesh...

Where would we be if our fellow citizens and decision makers didn't shield us from the horrors of religious freedom?

What really bothers me are the people who equate circumcision with female genital mutilation as if they're the same thing. They're not. Unlike male circumcision, the sole purpose of FGM is to rob women of the ability to feel sexual pleasure so they wont be tempted to have sex outside of marriage.

I think that things such as circumcision is a personal choice and that the government shouldn't be involved, and you definitely shouldn't mock those who choose to do it.

But, with that being said, I know we're not going to circumcise whatever sons I have with Mike. In Europe, circumcision is pretty rare now, and Mike has strong feelings about it. We both agree that it's a decision that our child can make for himself when he's an adult.

I recall hearing or reading something so many years ago, people trying to prove that circumcision caused psychological disorders (the babies are forever scarred by that moment of pain!) or that circumcised men were more likely to have "performance issues" than those who didn't. Honestly, it's a small flap of skin, it isn't really there for much, but is the perfect literal and symbolic depiction of whether a man is "clean" (God-loving, serving, etc.) or not. If I had to deal with a bit of skin that trapped bodily fluids and such, I think I'd rather have it done away with.

(I know all about female genital mutilation. Somehow, I don't see how that bit of foreskin could give or deny a man more pleasure during sex. But then again, I'm not a man.)
