The fact that the Gargoyles episode got banned was a terrible shame. It's the only "very special gun safety episode" I've ever seen that communicates the dangers of a gun without turning into a preachy, hysterical "OMG Guns are evil and should never be used EVER!!!" message. I wish every kid could see it (especially kids who have guns in their homes).
I recall Toon Disney having some very bizarre editing standards overall. In addition to the gun thing, they were also very skittish about showing female characters getting hit by male characters. Which led to some noticeably choppy cuts in Gargoyles and Rescue Rangers.
