Finally jumping on the "30 Days" meme bandwagon. Yay me!
My current favorite ship is a famous duo who took over 40 years to enter into a cannon relationship: Velma Dinkley and Shaggy Rogers from Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated.

I was torn on whether or not to choose this couple because the past few episodes of Mystery Incorporated have majorly altered Shaggy and Velma’s established personalities (thereby eliminating some of the traits that made them compatible to begin with). The show itself has an infuriating need to inject tons of melodrama into this relationship and chose to do so by violating cannon in a pretty nasty way (mainly by making Scooby hate Velma and making Velma act desperate).
Despite all that, it’s still compelling to watch (if only on a soap opera level) and I’m still rooting for them because, damn it, I waited over 20 years for them to be cannon! I just hope we get some indication in the near future that the relationship isn’t just built on teenage lust (I swear that’s what the current implication is! O_o). It’s weird to see characters who have been sweet and mellow in previous shows have one of the most dramatically messed up romances in kiddie cartoon history (in episode 8, Velma outright says “I hate myself for loving him”)!
*sigh* But, even if Mystery Incorporated does royally screw up a ship that Scooby fans have waited over 40 years to see, at least we'll still have these awesome screenshots to gawk at (hat tip to the person who captured them):

Date: 2010-09-02 12:24 pm (UTC)I haven't watch the last two episodes, but I know what you mean. Velma is becoming way too controlling to my tastes. I really hope the writers go back to what made they pairing so cute in the first place. With that said, it's been confirmed the show will be airing in Canada on September 9th. ^_~

Date: 2010-09-02 08:55 pm (UTC)Mystery Incorporated is a strange beast. It got the Velma/Shaggy/Scooby dynamic terribly wrong (and it looks like the writers did it solely to add ~drama~ to the relationship); but it does a FABULOUS job with Fred and Daphne! For the first time, Fred and Daphne are interesting, 3-dimensional characters and not just "the handsome leader and the hot chick". And the unsolved mystery behind the gang's hometown is really compelling.
*sigh* This may seem like an odd comparison, but this show makes me think about what it would be like if a new season of Slayers came out, made Lina and Gourry an official item, but then had them behave like a bad shoujo manga couple. We'd all watch it to squee over the pics of them hugging and kissing (and make a buttload of icons out of those screenshots); but we'd still be sad that the writers dropped the ball.

...now Scooby is the one acting like a jealous control freak! He's really mean to Velma for no reason in the latest episode. And that really bothered me because part of the reason I've always thought Shaggy/Velma would be good together is the close relationship Velma and Scooby had in most of the previous Scooby shows (she was the keeper of the Scooby Snacks for cryin' out loud!). If they don't reconcile soon, I'm gonna be a very sad fangirl. :(

Date: 2010-09-02 10:17 pm (UTC)I won't say which episode so I don't spoil you, but there's one episode when Daphane is missing and Fred can't think of any traps because he doesn't know what to do without her. The show also has all these references and callbacks to other Scooby Doo shows/specials. There's even a brief appearance of Vincent Van Ghoul who was a major character in the 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo (and was played by Vincent Van Price.)
Finally, these is an ongoing plot of this huge mystery the gang is trying to solve that will probably go on all season. So, it's still worth a worth. Just be warn Velma and Shaggy will make you head desk a bit. (No more than say Yue and Sokka did probably. XP)

Date: 2010-09-02 10:38 pm (UTC)The weird thing is that previous episodes of Mystery Inc seemed to imply that Scooby did know about the relationship and was fine with it. So it was a serious WTF moment when Scooby growled at Velma for no reason in the latest episode! O_o
I'm assuming that Velma and Scooby will get stuck together at some point and forced to make up. And when they do, I hope they team up and chew Shaggy out for his idiotic insistence on keeping the relationship secret in the first place.
