brendala: (sae WTF)

Just stumbled on this video. At first I thought it was conservative satire (its too ridiculous and creepy not to be!).

But it turns out the Obama campaign is REALLY doing this!

Now, I have no problem with people organizing for political issues. They have the right, of course. However, a door-to-door campaign in support of a sitting President ventures WAY too far into "cult of personality" territory. These people aren't pushing policy change! They're pushing their creepy Obama fetish!

This wouldn't bother me so much if it was just some random kooks doing this (President Obama can't be held responsible for all his wackjob followers, after all). But this is OFFICIALLY SANCTIONED by the Obama administration! Why does President Obama need his followers to go door-to-door and preach his gospel? He won the election! If he wants to inform the populace about his policies, can't he just hold a press conference or give a televised speech to the nation like a normal President? Or just go on Leno again? The fact that a sitting President is sending his minions door-to-door to have citizens sign loyalty oaths to him just freaks me out!

If I didn't already have a demanding job, I would totally join that "Pledge Project Canvas" thing just to go undercover and find out what they do to people who refuse to sign and/or say something critical about President Obama. I wonder...will those addresses and names be filed into an "enemies list" at the White House? Or will those people suddenly have all their embarassing private information made public à la Joe the Plumber?

*sigh* I'm trying to hold out hope that this thing was put together by random person in his campaign and that Obama himself had nothing to do with it. Because Barack Obama isn't a stupid guy. And only a complete moron could look at that video and not see how insanely fascist this Pledge Project Canvas program is!
