A PUP NAMED SCOOBY DOO IS COMING BACK!!!!! .....sort of.

So, they're making a new Scooby Doo direct-to-DVD movie featuring puppets instead of animation or actors. And these puppets are modeled after the Pup Named Scooby Doo designs!!

I'm TRYING to hold in my excitement until some information about the writers and voice actors involved is released. But this trailer looks pretty cool so far! It's a Wal-Mart exclusive DVD and it will be released July 23.

Since Pup is my favorite Scooby incarnation ever, I'll share some of my hopes for this thing here:

--I hope they do what the original show did and cast actual children to play the gang instead of the current cast. As mush as I love the current VAs, I'm pretty certain that Grey Delisle is the only one among them who can pull off a convincing kid voice.

--Speaking of voice actors, Scott Menville would be the ONE exception to the rule I just posted. Because that guy STILL sounds just like he did when he originally played Red Herring in the early 90s and I just can't fathom anyone but him as Red.

--I hope it goes with the Pup characterizations instead of the ones that are currently used with the grown-up gang in the latest movies. Specifically, I want the return of Snarky-Daphne, Conspiracy-Theorist-Fred, and Wall-Flower-Velma.
Also, I want to see at least one of these moments in puppet form:

...because these two are still one of my BFF-OTPs!! ^_^;

EDIT: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ms_verma , I now know the cast list:
Shaggy: Matthew Lillard
Scooby/Freddy: Frank Welker
Daphne: Grey DeLisle-Griffin
Velma: Stephanie D'Abruzzo

It sucks that Velma's actress is the only one getting replaced for this thing (IMO, Mindy Cohn could probably do a more convincing kiddie voice than Welker and Lillard). But Stephanie D'Abruzzo is an interesting replacement (she's a puppeteer famous for helping create the Avenue Q broadway show). I'm curious to see how she'll handle the character.

What, Grey Delisle?!

OMG. +________+

I totally agree with that last cap! <33333333

A friend of mine just looked up the cast list. And it turns out her name is Grey Delisle-Griffin now.

I'm bummed that Velma's actress is the only one getting replaced. But her replacement is someone I like, so I'll still check it out

Ditto! Here's the proof.

Grey DeLisle-Griffin

I knew that name sounded familiar. Over in my part of the internets she's known more for being the female Wizard in Diablo 3. Kicking ass, sassing it up for lulz and because she can. >:D (If you make a dude Wizard? You get... Crispin Freeman!)

I've heard of her epic pun fetish. And people like her make it hard to resist the temptation to join Twitter just to keep up with them. XD

You don't actually have to register a Twitter account to read, just to post (well, if you were to use something like TweetDeck then I suppose you WOULD have to register).

She's small-fry compared to, oh, our pal Yuri. Oh man. He's not the king of VA Twitter for nothing. :D And that's when he's just posting about his usual nightlife shenanigans with Tara (which tend to involve dinner theater and cosplay). When he posts about his cat, that's when it really gets fun...

Also Yuri, Liam O'Brien and Sam Riegel love love LOVE to tease the yaoi fangirls. XD

Okay, I so have to get this. Not only because of this based off of A Pup Named Scooby-doo, but because those puppets are super cute. Hey, if this does well, maybe they'll make puppet scooby-doo plushies. XD I would so get one!

AGREED!!
Even if the puppet movie is terrible. I will forgive it if it means I can FINALLY get my hands on some Pup merchandise that I missed out on as a kid!!
