BOY MEETS WORLD IS COMING BACK!!!

Attn: [livejournal.com profile] sarajayechan ~_^

The Disney Channel is doing a sequel series to the classic TGIF sit-com Boy Meets World starring Corey and Topanga's daughter! The new series will be called 'Girl Meets World' and Ben Savage & Danielle Fishel have already confirmed that they're coming back for the new series.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. On the one hand, my inner nostalgic child is elated to know that I'll get to see Corey and Topanga as a grown up married couple with careers and a family (btw, the fact that those two are now old enough to have a teenage daughter makes me feel EXTREMELY old). I literally grew up with these characters. So getting to see them again as adults just feels right.
And if they ever have a huge reunion episode featuring Mr Feeny, Shawn, Corey's parents & siblings, Jack, Angela, and Minkus; I might just die of nostalgia overload (and I would NOT regret it!!)

On the other hand, The Disney Channel has a reputation for using it's live-action tween sit-coms as a way to promote their revolving door of untalented, cookie-cutter little pop stars. And it would kill me to see the characters of Corey and Topanga reduced to being incubators for the next Hannah Montana.

I'll try to keep an open mind and I'll definitely watch this when it premiers! On the bright side, it was recently confirmed that most of the old writing/creative team from Boy Meets World will be working on the new show. So at least we don't have to worry about this thing being helmed by some executive who doesn't get it.

So, how do my fellow 90s kids feel about this? Are you excited, terrified, or both?

I saw all the hype on Facebook, but to be perfectly honest, I never truly dug Boy Meets World that much. I watched a few episodes here and there, but I just didn't click with it.

Ah, Disney. Some of the stuff they do is so amazing for TV. Other is just... eeurgh. I hope this falls under the good side.

I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T REPLY

So from what I'm seeing...I won't lie, I'm kind of excited. I want to believe it'll be great, even for being Disney Channel fare. The actresses playing Riley and Maya are adorable, and Cory being a teacher and Topanga owning a business is just badass. (Some people are disappointed that she didn't pursue law like she was going for in BMW, but business ownership is just as ambitious!) And apparently, Feeny's gonna make some appearances.

Also, people change their minds/goals during or after college all the time. So Topanga not having the exact career she dreamed about when she was 20-years-old isn't a total betrayal of her character.
Also, like you said, business ownership is pretty badass and ambitious. Some fans are acting as if the new show has her working at McDonalds or Hooters or something and it's pretty ridiculous. :P

And apparently, Feeny's gonna make some appearances.

Rumor has it he's going to have a somewhat regular role in the new show. Which I would love to see because it would be AWESOME to see Feeny still acting as the Matthews' family therapist well into his 90s! XD

Exactly! Maybe she decided the business world suited her more. Besides, it's also a local hangout-maybe she liked the idea of doing something that'd make kids and teenagers happy.

Oh my God, that'd own SO hard. XD
