R.I.P. Andrew Breitbart

The conservative movement just lost it's bravest warrior...

Normally, I try to avoid making political posts on my personal journal because I want to avoid alienating my left-leaning friends (and I want to keep my personal LJ as wank-free as possible). But this is too important not to mention here.

I read his book a few months ago and have followed his career since he broke the ACORN scandal. And I had always hoped that I'd get to meet him eventually (since he lived close by, I figured I'd get the chance at some point if I ever went to a big SoCal conservative event). According to Greg Gutfeld, Breitbart is the main reason that one of my favorite shows (Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld) exists. He clearly had good taste and good media instincts and I am so sorry to see him go.

The greatest thing he did was encourage the right to shed their stodgy views on pop culture and social media. He embraced those things and tried hard to make others see that the only way to shed those stereotypes is to face them head on and FORCE people to see that they're not true and that conservatives don't deserve to be universally labeled as monsters. As a young right-winger who spent a lot of time "in the closet" because I didn't personally know anyone like me, it was a comforting and empowering message to hear.

I wanted to put Thaddeus McCotter's solumn eulogy here. But I think Breitbart would prefer to be remembered for his wacky as hell Red Eye appearances:

R.I.P. Andrew Breitbart. The 2012 election cycle is going be terribly boring without you.
