Caption Fest: Worst Scooby Movies guest stars EVER!

I swear to G-d, this is a real Captain Planet screen shot (here's proof. Just skip to 2:15)! Velma and Shaggy really did make a background appearance in a Captain Planet episode about inner city gang violence. I'll give you a minute to let that sink in....
..........OK, here goes!

-Velma: OK, Shaggy. We've influtrated the Planeteers' HQ. Now we just need to find proof that they blew up the Mystery Machine and burned down my school's science lab!
-Shaggy: Are you, like, sure they're guilty?
-Velma: Those dirty hippies have been sending my lab threatening letters all week! And they kept bugging Fred to replace our van with a Prius right before it blew up!
-Shaggy: Uh, the term "dirty hippie" is kinda mean, don't you thi-
-Velma: And Fred told me that they also kidnapped Scooby Doo and released him into the Amazon jungle.
-Shaggy: THEY WHAT!?!!??
-Velma: They said they were "releasing him from human enslavement". Fred and Daphne are trying to track him down now. Didn't you wonder why they weren't with us?
-Shaggy: DAMN DIRTY HIPPIES!!! &%&$#@!!!!

Maybe that's why I like it, being a bleeding-heart liberal and all. Eh, honestly, I just liked the show as a kid and never thouht of it in political terms.

I didn't get the political stuff when I was a kid either. But even then I could tell that it was being too heavy-handed to be taken seriously. I mean, you don't have to be a politically savvy adult to realize that having a bunch of villains who want to dump trash everywhere just because (even if it doesn't net them any profit) is lazy writing. :P

I don't think its lazy writing. I mean, how many bad people in real life have a reason? Not that many. Assuming you agree dumping trash makes one a villain. I mean, its hokey but that doesn't make it lazy writing. I don't agree with the message entirely and I don't see it really blaming one political party or another though. I just see it as teachin kids to be more earth-friendly.

I think people tend to over-analyze kids' shows.

If you watch the show today as an adult, it comes across like propaganda (not surprising, considering who created it). Teaching kids to be more environmentally friendly is all well and good; but I think it's wrong to do so by scaring them into thinking another ice age is going to freeze them to death if they don't recycle (BTW, remember back when Global COOLING was the imminent environmental disaster?).

And no, dumping trash does not automatically make one evil. What's evil is teaching kids simplistic nonsense "like all big corporations are bad" and "small, third world villages are happier living in the stone age and shouldn't be exposed to modern, wasteful conveniences like washing machines and electricity".
Those were both plots that were regularly used in that show.
