Is it weird when your mom is more "with it" than you are?

My mother (who up until a year ago couldn't even turn a computer on) has just set up a Facebook account to get in touch with some high school friends of hers (so far, she's reconnected with 4). Mom, my sister, and my friends keep telling me to get on it. But I just don't see the appeal. Though I may have to jump on the bandwagon soon because many of my real life friends have taken on the habit of announcing big news via facebook only.

Now I kinda feel like an old lady for thinking "why doesn't this generation just TALK to each other anymore?"

Oh well. :-P

I only got Facebook to keep track of old roommates, but aside from that I agree with you. I hate how no one seems to know how to talk anymore...and Facebook is a time-waster anyway because of all the applications and the like on there. And then you'll get the weird friend requests from people you don't even know.

I ought to just delete my Facebook account. I try to avoid the place as much as possible..

I've thought about getting facebook to keep up with old roommates, too (with the time differences between states, it can be hard to call them). But it doesn't seem worth it for just that. Especially since I can just e-mail them. And aside from about 3 people, I didn't really like my dormmates enough to maintain contact with them anyway. :P

I'm lazy enough about keeping up with my LJ and checking my e-mail. I don't think I can keep track of a facebook, too.

That's my main problem, too. When it comes to LJ and Facebook, I prefer LJ. I just don't think to check Facebook, and all the e-mail I ever get for it is just stupid spam. Fun..

Yeah. And the second I jump on the Facebook bandwagon, I just KNOW another site will take its place. Not too long ago, MySpace was all the rage with my friends and sisters. Now its all about Facebook! Its not worth keeping up with, in my opinion.

You speak truth. Every time something new comes up with Live Journal policy, a lot of people seem to panic and get ready to jump ship to yet another new blogging site. It frustrates me, really. Already I'm learning of newer networking sites like Twitter (GAG!) and now Linked-In, or whatever it's called. Everyone seems ready to create new communities to get a piece of the pie. ...I can only eat so much pie. XP

I use facebook to make sure I know who moves where. Never really use any of the other functions.

Facebook is good for propagating stories to all your friends until they all block you. Facebook is good for driving traffic to websites and it can be useful for planning events such as a rally, but it just downright sucks as a communication tool.

If you haven't noticed, I've been perusing your LJ posts (sorry, am I being a weird bother?) and I've noticed that you and I are very similar in this stuff! I never had a Myspace, don't have a facebook, and honestly, I don't see myself having one in the near future. I don't even text my friends, unless something urgent I need updating on is going on and I or a friend is put in a situation where we really can't talk to each other (which has only happened like... once or twice). I just have no interest in that sort of stuff... I keep wondering if I'm just way behind my classmates or way ahead o_O.

LOL. Don't worry. I don't think you're a creepy stalker.

My aversion to Facebook and MySpace is partly due to lazyness (checking/updating them in addition to my e-mail and LJ would take too much time). But it's mostly because I know for a fact that employers check up on Facebook and MySpace and that a goofy cosplay picture on one of those pages could cost me a job.
