Feminist rant ahoy!!

It makes me sick (and a little frightened) that I live in a state full of dimwits who believe that it's OK for a man to drug and rape a child if he's really rich, famous, and talented. People like Charlton Heston (may he rest in peace) and Dennis Miller are pariahs in Hollywood because they **gasp** openly supported Conservative policies and candidates late in their careers. And celebrity bimbos treat Sarah Palin like an active threat to females everywhere. But a dirtbag like Roman Polanski is a "tortured soul" who just made a "little mistake" and deserves to go free!? F**k Hollywood!

Note to Polanski-loving celebrity starlets: I'm sure having anal sex with strange older men while high on alcohol and pills is just another Saturday night for you. However, normal women would call sex under those circumstances "rape". ESPECIALLY if the man is in his 40s and the girl is underage!!

God only knows how many French little girls were victimized by him over the years. I'm glad that France is finally condemning him. Even though its about 30 years too late.

I've never seen any of his movies, so luckily I don't have to deal with the conflicting feelings of liking his movies even though I hate what he did.

Anyway, I don't have a problem with people enjoying his films. If an entertainer I really liked did something heinous, I doubt I'd instantly run outside and burn all their books/movies/whatever. But all the people screaming about how Polanski was "wronged" and that the girl was a slut are just not right in the head.

agreed. again, if we were able to be fine with phil spector going to jail for the rest of hair-frizzled life, i'm sure we will be fine with polanski serving time. and besides, it wasn't like he was on the verge of making his next great film ... and he's been having a kind of middle finger at us/u.s. for a long time anyway. so ... the man needs to be humbled for his crimes =]

on a similar note, one of the vocal supporters (though thankfully he didn't say something stupid like certain people ... *cough* whoopi *cough*) was terry gilliam. aside from personal friendship, i'm sure another motivation for this was because the united states wanted him back. gilliam in recent years has been more vocal against america and even to the point of renouncing his citizenship and taking up u.k. (since his monty python days, he's had dual citizenship ... not sure how that worked but oh well). so it's a "2 for 1" special: support your own and despise your supporting nation.

idiots but not useful.
