Do you think that modern pop music is atonal, amoral garbage?

I have a teenage sister who listens to 'Party in the USA', the new Brittany Spears song, and Lady Gaga 24/7. And, is it just me, or do all modern pop songs sound exactly the same? They're all so electronically muffled that you can't understand most of the lyrics (and the ones you can understand are really gross >_<). My sister thinks I'm just an old fuddy duddy; but I can't be the only one who feels this way.

Luckily, I found a music reviewer on YouTube who feels the same and expresses it in a hilarious way. Watching his videos makes me feel a lot better about being out of touch with the youngsters and their dadgum music. Check it out:

Those kids and their fancy-pants music. I motion we sit on that bench in front of your house and tell those whippersnappers to get off our lawn.

I just find it all rather boring. I can't really comment about the morals part since every generation's guilty in that department (really, the difference is just that newer generations are more blatant).

Oddly enough, i'm not a huge fan of this type of music, but once in a while you have one song that really gets you. I know there is one Lady Gaga song that I like. But for the rest. Meh.

I'm with you on this one. I don't like modern stuff myself. I stick to movie scores, 60's & 70's and classical mostly with the occasional eclectic song that gets stuck in my head.

Yes, they equally suck.

I've noticed a trend over the years that the newer the music, the harder it is to make out just what the heck the singer is saying. I've not made it a point to keep up to date on music since...never, I still remember back when I was a kid and I thought 'Deaf Leopard' was just that - a deaf leopard. Granted, every now and again a good song comes along, but for the most part I just leave them alone.

That second video made me sad though, if Britney Spears is referring to Peter, Paul and Mary. I too grew up listening to them and I still love their music. With music like theirs you could at least understand what was being said!

Man, and music is getting really raunchy anymore..

UGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH..... YES, I do believe modern pop music is garbage... not all of it is, but it USUALLY is. So many songs are so.... superficial and MEANINGLESS, hence why I have a tendency to listen to more foreign music. I take offense to your sister's "old fuddy duddy" comment because it's like saying that songs with meaning are "in the past", I don't want a future where everything is shallow! DX. Not to mention, I'm a teenager too! I'm still in high school and frankly I don't want to be lumped in with a majority of the other teenage girls. Sure, I know alot of nice people and nice girls, but what is deemed the "typical" high school female annoys me XP.

granted, I dance to some of the songs you mentioned, but only because my dance teacher plays them during our lessons and because like it or not, I find the songs to be catchy and easy to dance to >.>. I don't listen to them on my own time though.
