I've been pretty bad about posting my art here. So I'll update by showing off the colored pieces I've done recently with the tablet that the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] ichiban_victory gifted to me

A kid I was shopping for is way into Guardians of the Galaxy. So I drew her this Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas card to go with her present.

A friend of mine insisted that I give “Red Hood and the Outlaws” (or, as I like to call it, “The Adventures of Douchebag & Dudebro”) a chance because Scott Lobdell is a totally awesome writer and he MUST have a good reason for screwing over Starfire’s character (both literally and figuratively) in the New 52 reboot. I tried the first issue. And this comic is basically the impression it left on me regarding Jason Todd and Roy Harper’s, er, “partnership” with Starfire.

A few weeks back, I was watching a friends daughter while she took care of some stuff at work. To keep her occupied, I brought out my sketchbook and asked her for comic ideas. This is what she came up with...

First she asked for Spongebob. And I apologized to her for my inability to draw him properly (I haven't watched the show in years)

Then she told me all about the Lego Batman Movie she watched the night before (I didn't even know that movie existed!). And started asking for Batman comics. And that's when things got fun!

First, she wanted a Batgirl drawing:

Then she asked me to draw Catwoman running away from a police man and a dog:

Kid commissions are fun!! :)

Before the wank begins, let me make it clear that I'm NOT trying to make light of suicide. I'm just mocking DC's latest attempt to drive away it's dwindling female fanbase.

I made this doodle as a response to DC Comic's current art contest to win a job drawing the upcoming revamped Harley Quinn comic book series. Basically, aspiring artists are being asked to show their skills by drawing Harley attempting suicide in a variety of "hilarious" ways. And one of the things they're asking the entrants to draw is:
""
PANEL 4
Harley sitting naked in a bathtub with toasters, blow dryers, blenders, appliances all dangling above the bathtub and she has a cord that will release them all. We are watching the moment before the inevitable death. Her expression is one of “oh well, guess that’s it for me” and she has resigned herself to the moment that is going to happen.

""

I drew most of my recent "How the Little Mermaid should have ended" comic on my lunch breaks at work. My co-workers saw me working on it in the break room and they were actually pretty fascinated/shocked to find out that so much planning and math goes into making a comic page (they saw me using a ruler and calculator while drawing and thought that seemed weird). So I stopped to explain to them that I had to measure how much panel/paper space I was working with and figure out how much space each panel needed to get the point across. I also explained the process of trimming the dialog and scenes in order to figure out how to get the point across in just one page. To my surprise, they found it to be really interesting; so I thought I'd put my scratch pages with the measurements here just so you guys can see it, too.

Here's an art post of random silly things I've drawn lately. We'll start with Adventure Time!

Now for some non-fanart original stuff!

HUMANIZED RESCUE RANGERS

Here's some half-finished "Humanized Rescue Rangers" doodles that I forgot about until I dug them out of one of my MANY "unfinished ideas" folders. LOL

Monotonous office jobs can be surprisingly inspiring. I even managed to incorporate color for the first time!!

Sharpie highlighters are perfect for 80s icons!

And here's some non-fanart (believe it or not, I do have a tiny shred of originality!)
Scribble Time!! )
brendala: (magical me)
So my search for a new doodle pen lead me to the 99 cent store that just opened near my house. These pens aren't perfect; but they work almost as well as the brand that I can't find anymore

Here are some of my test doodles. I tried to draw a little of everything to make sure it worked:

[livejournal.com profile] earthstar_moon 's Sly Cooper AU
Joann, Stu, and I recently brainstormed ways to make Sly Cooper 4 not suck.
FYI, I have dubbed Sly 4: Thieves in Time "the-game-that-shall-not-be-named" because, like the-SHOW-that-shall-not-be-named, it's a sexist piece of shit that fridged two of my all time favorite fictional ladies!!
...*ahem* Anyway, here's the AU pictures and the texts that inspired them (the full geeky brainstorm can be found here)

AU madness under the cut.... )

Final verdict: Very good quality for a pen I got as a 4-pack at the 99-Cent Store. For now, this'll suit my scribble needs nicely! :)
brendala: (Carmelita icon)
For anyone out there who has an interest in the Sly Cooper franchise but doesn't want to invest the time and/or money it would take to play one of the games, these comics are a great introduction. They were published by Sucker Punch (the company behind the original game trilogy) back in 2005 and are currently out of print. Both comics are pretty short; but they do a great job introducing the reader to the characters and making you WANT to see more of them.
tl;dr: If you love fun, cartoony, and innocent action shows in the vein of Ducktales or Talespin, you will like this. I promise! :)

More importantly, the comic book format allows the series' one female lead (Inspector Carmelita Fox) to be fleshed out in a way the games just couldn't do (since Carmelita wasn't a playable character in the games at the time). She's a great character in the games; but she just SHINES with awesomeness here.

Issue One (prequel to the first and second games)

....Did I mention that this book has GORGEOUS art? Because it does!

ISSUE 2
This one is set after the second game (which had a surprisingly dark ending...) and is meant to lead into the third.

I loved the movie 'Green Lantern: First Flight'. But it was impossible for me to see Hal Jordan the same way after witnessing his first transformation sequence.

I'm not sure if this pic is safe for work or not. So it's going under a cut....

Silly shower doodle under the cut..... )

You know what my favorite thing about this new series is? It gives me the PERFECT opportunity to use my "Velma gets pervy with Shaggy in the bathtub" icon! XD
brendala: (Perv LOL (SV))
This post is [livejournal.com profile] secondlina 's fault. She gave me the idea.

After drawing this comic I got to thinking....does Batman think that ambushing people in the shower is the best way to handle a grievance (or any confrontation for that matter)? I like to think the answer is "yes"! So expect to see more comics like this.
Also, I'm kinda hoping that "Batman in the Shower" becomes a new meme. ~_^

brendala: (BOOK GIRLS)

I bought the first issue of IDW’s MLP: Friendship is Magic comic book series. So I thought I’d give you guys a small, spoiler-free review of it.

In short, I HIGHLY recommend picking this book up! I loved it and currently have it added to my comic shop pull list.
